Tein Super Street

I had a chance to install my Tein Super Street coilovers this weekend. I was lucky to buy these coilovers from a member who lives in Japan since they do not make these coilovers in the US. The spring rates for the coilovers are 5kg front and 4kg for the rear. I currently have the damper settings at the hardest and the drop is at the lowest setting for both the front and rear. The handling has improved dramatically and body roll have been eliminated. I can cut corners fairly fast without having the rears break loose. The ride quality isn't so bad at all. I used to own a set of Tein Basics and the ride quality for both coilovers are about the same. All around, I think I like these coilovers a lot more than the basics. I will have to mess around with the damper settings and see the changes. Well here's a picture.

The rims are 18x7.5. I needed to find another set of rims after selling my other volks and rather than buying a set of stock rims, I got these rims for a little bit more than the price of stocks. Once my kit is here and I paint it, I will for sure post pics.

If he had 18s and side skirts that would be really low.

What is the clearance on the front?

I measured the front last night and it is about 3" from the floor. I'm going to raise my car tomorrow since i dont have class.

imrtommy, YES, all that camber is bad for my tires. I probably gonna get an alignment soon.

Wow! I just measured mine with the MS bumper after dropping it a half inch it is sitting at 4 inches from the ground and that looks low...

Did you have much trouble with scraping at 3?

What is normal height with the lip?

It's really hard getting around, especially when there are speed bumps. That is why I am going to raise my car about an inch. I never measured the normal height, but all i know is that stock height is like driving a monster trcuk compared to the drop i have now.

I haven't had any problem with 4 inches and the Mazdaspeed kit sticks out further in the front compared to the appearance package. That extra bit that it sticks out makes a difference, because when going down a hill and it starts to incline the front is going to get there before the tires get to the incline to compensate.

Monster truck

It was at 5.5 inches (raised 0.5 with coilovers) before I dropped it down to 4. Stock bumper is going on for the winter. I don't want to plow any snow.

I bought the other set of Tein Super Street Coilovers from the same fourm member. I got a chance to install them today, the install wasn't hard at all, it went really smoothly. The only time consuming part was removing my custom sound system so i could get to the rear shock bolts in the trunk. Im really happy with this kit, and i really like the way the car handles now. I have some pictures of the kit before i installed it, and i also have some of the install pictures. Heres a link if you want to check out the install pictures, http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2330383/4.
I will post new pictures of my car soon.

How come velocity-rx8's super streets come with helper springs in the back and yours do not. I think you got zapped.

Do any online retailers sell the SS coilovers? I don't want the basics but the FLEX might be a bit out of budget and overkill for me. I see used sets of the SS floating around every once in a while for 700-800 and I'd probably grab a set at that price.

http://www.tein.co.uk/price/fmpindex.html
that is the Tein UK site with some details for the SS kit.
Seems that link may not work?? Anyhow here are some details;
Ride Height - Front = -20mm. Rear = -15mm
Spring Rate - Front = 280lbs. Rear = 224lbs.
Ride Height Adjustable Range - Front = -5mm to - 30mm. Rear = -0mm to -30mm.

Photos fitted to my RX8. FRONT; http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s.../TeinFront.jpg

Very nice quality coilovers with a very similar ride to stock but is a little harsher. Plenty good enough for the average/fast street sports car and occasional track day car. I really like them for the adjustable dampers and ride height. Big improvement in the RX8's handling/cornering.
