Stock rim fitment question

I did a search and I see that on the stock rims, most people would say to go with a 245/40. The question I have it why cant we keep it at 245/45? Thanks in advance for any help

Stock is 225/45.

245/40 is almost the same diameter, a little wider, and usually much cheaper & easier to find, it's a Corvette stock size.

245-45's are too tall...they will make the speedo error larger than necessary...the 40 is almost the same as stock....you decide

Thats what I was thinking, the only reason I dont want 40s is because of the bumps and potholes in my area, really bad, I dont want to crack a rim. So maybe I'll try the middle at 235/45?

The 240's are wider/larger, the '40' number is the percentage of how high it is in relation to it's width, so it is, in fact, only 3mm shorter than the 225/45 stocker.

.....so you get wider, cheaper, and more selection, for about an 1/8th of an inch lower ride.

Thanks for the good info, so I'm not really sacrificing much ride comfort. Thanks for the info, quick responses and great site. Thanks

Thanks, Stealth and OP and everyone. This was very helpful for me, too, as I am about to get new tires and (undecided) rims.
