Staggered wheels or not???

hey everyone...

I am looking into gettin some new wheels for my ride.

Here are the specs:

Front:19x8.5, Rear:19x9.5
5x100/114.3/120
HPO - Hyper Black
Tires: Front 245/35/19, Rear 275/30/19

I read the sticky thread about staggered wheels and it seems there are two oppinions on it...so i thought I'd do a poll to see whats everyone thinks. I dont know much about wheels and such thats why I need help...thanx.

I'm running this same setup (though I'm using a 235/35 tire up front) with a pretty significant drop and nothing rubs.
Just make sure your rear offset is at least +43 and your front is at least +35.
+45 in the back would be even better. I think +47 to +50 is as deep as you can go on a 9.5" rim without hitting the strut.

9.5 rear, 8.5 front with a 28 offset, I rubbed and had to get them rolled big time; but it looks nice and handles well.

Why did you go with a Honda offset?

I think your better off not going staggered.

I have not seen anyone who regularly goes to the track use this set up for the RX8.

Staggered is more of a cosmetic look in my opinion. Performance wise, you want all the same size tires and wheels.

i have staggered, and i say don't stagger. if you want, just fit some 9.5s all around. it'll still look aggressive. i plan on doing that if i ever change out my wheels. there's a huge difference between same wheels all around and staggered.

so...9.5s all around??? i dont know exacly how to pick out wheels but i like the handling on stock wheels. Also if i do go with 19x9.5s on all four what size tire should i get - im still at stock height.

thanx alot guys this is really helping.

how do you rotate directional tires if they are staggered?

If you're going staggered you should also go directional and asymmetrical, just to make sure that you completely eliminate all of your rotation options.

I go to Big O tires and have them break the wheels down, flip the tires (makes the right the left and the left the right) re-assemble and re-balance.
You should re-balance your wheels every 10k miles, anyway.
Sets me back about $50.

I went with non-staggered because I really love the way the RX-8 handles. It's my daily driver so I didn't want to sacrifice any performance just for style.

I agree with NgoRX8. If you want aggressive, then get 9.5 all around. Looks mean as hell. Just keep in mind that if you go 19", be sure you get wheels that aren't going to weigh a whole lot more than stock. You'll definitely lose some performance if you select the wrong ones.

Speaking of which, you're wrong.

That's a very common front RX-8 size fitment as noted by numerous threads here. FWIW, I run 18 x 10.5 +43 on all four corners, no fender mods, no rubbing.

really? wow thanks, i've been wondering whether to get 9.5's all round (hate to go through the trouble of rolling fenders), staggered (handling?), or 8.5's all round (seems too thin).

what if they were 9.5" all round +40 offset wrapped with 275/30/19 with an 1 inch drop? (.8" swift springs)

Any rubbing??? Im guessing that your ride is stock height as well?? and what size tires u have on??

Im kinda leaning towards having the same all around whether 8.5 or 9.5s. But I dont know what size tires to get or offsets.....

love the rims by the way...
