>Speedsource is using stock brakes in the Grand Am series only >replacing the pads.......................

They mostly like have a brake duct set up for track use. Brake duct is a big help on the track. It maximize the efficiency of the brake system and reduce the chance for a rotor wrap.

at about 6,000 miles I noticed my brakes squeal when I was coming to a slow stop. I haven't asked my dealership about it...but I was pretty shocked to hear them squealing so damn soon.

2500 miles - Front left brake sqealing. Havn't abused anything. I have not brought into dealer yet, but will. I'll keep you posted. Maybe it has to do with when our cars were built??

i know i'm bringing this thread back from the dead..but it's been frustrating me..didn't want to start another thread..just did a search...wondering if its still happening..and if anyone's done anything abt it..

right now i'm a lil over 7000 miles..but around 6000 i believe...my squeeling started..and it's aggrivating me..i took the car in to gorden...who always takes care of me all the time..i figured he'd give me a straight up answer and be nice as usual....but i was told that it was debris also...its so embarressing..u'd think they'd be able to do something...especially since its such low mileage...when i brake...i tend to play with them...brake slowly..then a lil bit more..tilll i just brake to a dead stop so it doesnt make noise...how annoying

Mine starting making noise around 5000 miles and went to the dealership twice and they still couldn’t fix it. But they did tell me it was under warranty and that it would be covered at no charge. I have no idea why they would tell you their not covered under warranty! Anyways here in Maryland we have something called a "Lemon Law" I believe or maybe it’s called something else. Well if they don't fix the same problem the 3rd time, they have to replace the whole car with a brand new one. So the dealership here in Silver Spring, Maryland replaced all the brake pads and all the rotors. Haven’t heard a sound from the brakes since!

it's considered wear and tear..so they don't have to replace my brakes

I have the same problem with my brakes.....they squeek when its hott out and not as much when its cold. when i went to the dealer they said its because the brake pads on the rx8 are to hard and basicly i have to live with it....all they did was clead my rotors and pads and sent me on my way, and their still squeeking. i think im just gonna buy aftermarket pads cuz mazda's not doing anything about this problem. >

MazdaManiac had a good suggestion in another thread on this...

If you do that a couple of times, it will end your problem. Its kinda fun, too.
Dirt, dust, rust and uneven wear cause the pads to squeal. Stomping on them will re-bed the pads.
These are high performance brakes and they are seldom driven hard enough to get up to operating temperature so they load up with dust and junk.
Try this and see if it helps? Mine squeak too, I just haven't really had the opportunity to try this.

My brakes started to be annoying about a month ago. I have 11,500 miles on my 8, and just passed my first year.

I took it in yesterday and the tech suggested the problem might be that the pins the calipers slide on need to have anti-seize re-applied. He took an hour to remove each caliper, clean and "lub". He said many people screw up because they only do the front side of the caliper. It's only been a day, but I will report on whether it continues to be quiet.

All this talk of warped rotors.. my squeek only occurs when I brake coming to a stop. There is no vibration, like I would expect if the rotors were bad.

I printed out my TSB on it, and they got to it right away. If they say it's a "natural wear", then tell them your mileage on the car. Less than 30K, I don't think it's normal to go out so quickly. Mine has 11K on it only.

It's great now! It didn't lose the braking quality either.

Holy Jesus, are you serious? What compelled you guys to revive this 4-month-old thread?!? I think every squeaky-brakes thread since this one sufficiently gave the same answers. But whatever floats your boat.

Since I'm here, I may as well add my two cents. After maybe two months with the new, non-squeaky brakes, I'm of the opinion that the original brakes had better stopping power. With the originals, my car immediately, and literally, screeched to a halt; with the new ones, the stop is more drawn-out and jarring. I'm a big fan of the decreased brake dust but felt more confident in the performane of the original pads.

Thumbs up

I printed out my TSB from finishline and I took it to the dealership, with 32k miles and they replaced my brakes. No questions asked once I showed them the TSB, especially the bottom notes parts that says that ALL cars that complain about this have to get them replaced under warranty until the 36k miles.

so i saved a bunch of $$$ with that!!!

The 1st dealer I called, my usual service dealer and also the closest, had no idea what I was talking about. The service guy even paused on the phone and said here comes the general manager, let me ask him, he comes back on after a few minutes and says, they have never heard of a TSB or brake repacement issue for RX-8's. I told him I know of others who have had this done and am aware of TSB. So, I call the far away dealer where the car was purchased and ask for the service manager and right away he knew what I was talking about. I ask him about the rotors, no problem he says, we will service them and replace them if necessary. We have even replaced some calipers on this type of work, he says. Made appt. with them even though it is not convenient for me.

The TSB says it is a 50,000 mile warranty on brakes, I would keep trying with other dealers.
