Should the front or back tires wear faster ??

Ok, when I had my Honda, the front tires wore quicker than the back.

On my 8, the back are wearing quicker. Is this common?

Honda's are front wheel drive cars where the power is applied to your front tires. thus they wear faster in the front.

The RX8 is a rear wheel drive car where the power is applied to your back wheels. thus they wear faster in the back.

think about it...

Assuming your tires are the same size then be sure to rotate them.

You do understand the difference between rwd and fwd?

actually.... afaik, the front tires ALWAYS wear faster than the rears.

rwd so the rears get worn faster? uhh... are you burning out every stop light?

the front tires wear faster because they do the steering and the braking. under hard braking, the front tires will do up to 70% of the braking. normal braking is less, but thats still more wear and tear on the front tires. and of course, the front tires steer. the loads placed on the front tires during cornering is significantly more than the back tires. especially the outside front tire.

If you are only driving on the street, the rears will probably wear more quickly and on the inside edge due to camber.
If you are doing a lot of really hard, twisty stuff (or track/Auto-X), your fronts will wear faster than the rear and mostly on the outside edge.

I go through front tires at about twice the rate of rears.

I think you are staggered though and can not rotate. If the OP is not and rotated tires then wear should be much more even.

They will wear in the same pattern and for the same reasons, however.
