Was thinking of ordering slotted and dimpled rotors...but don't want the rust after a year...maybe being in SoCal it won't matter as much as MD as we're a dry state...
Any other thoughts on slotted/drilled rotors? |
Mine are not rusted after 1.5 years :dunno: But rust is not an issue in San Antonio. Heck the factory rotors rusted so.................
An option of course is that they can do the whole rotor in color as well. |

I found this pic so I guess I have a little bit of rust but nothing I'm concerned with. besides, I have been thinking of getting new ones anyway. Mind you mine were just zinc coated, no painting.

I'd like to try and clean the slots a little. Can anyone recommend a good way to do this, without scratching the rotor face? |
Yeah you could get rid of the dust easily. remove them, use naval gelly or a rust remover spray, clean them, then spray paint them completely with high temp engine paint. The paint on the rotor faces will wear off due to the pads or you could just mask them and paint them.

So what was the consensus on Olorin's issue ... was it rust or dust? Thinking about grabbing a full set for myself. They quoted me 260 for front/rear/performance pads ... anyone know what "performance pads" they are? the email didn't say
|
I know quite a few with these and they have no issues. Not sure on the pads.
|
Think i should bother with the pads? I only have 6k daily driven on mine from factory :-p
|
I have not heard any complaints, I bet they are decent for regular use.
|
roger that sir, thanks

FYI the pads I got quoted for are the Posi-Quiet Ceramics from the following:
http://www.centricparts.com/ specifically: http://www.centricparts.com/index.ph...d=47&Itemid=81 |
Beware that getting painted rotors from Rotor Pros will take a while. It took over 3 weeks for me to get all of the stuff I ordered. After 2 weeks without hearing anything I contacted him and he said that the rotors had been painted the wrong color and he had to send them back to the paint place. The last items to arrive though, were the brake pads (separate shipment.)
So don't order from him if your brakes NEED to be replaced. |

I've done business with Rich on more than one occasion and never had a problem with communication or order status.
Rich has done nothing but his best with all of my orders (some were more complicated then most) |
Rotor pros is awesome i just ordered 4 slotted rotors plus ceramic performance pads for 260 ridiculously good deal
|

I already have everything though and I should get my turbo back today or tomorrow and then the install begins this weekend :) |
9krpmrx8 i think that your idea of which way slotted rotors are supposed to face is wrong.
giving the direction the rotors spin i'd want the center most part touching the pad first than directing dust outwards towards the outer edge of the rotors. just like on a marry go round the centrifugal force wants to throw dust that way anyways. facing them the way you do would cut and send the dust towards the center of the rotor in my opinion. |
^ Brake performance is not so much based on the direction of the slots, but the rotation of the rotor relative to the internal vanes.
