rim repairng

I was wondering if the stock rims can be repaired if they are dented. because my rim is dented and i went to pepboys and they told me that they cant fix it because its aluminum and it would crack if they try. but that sounds stupid to me. So anyone have any advice?

They can be repaired.......but you can likely buy a perfect one for about the same price used....

Rim Repairng

Yeah thats what i thought. But i also need new wheel bearing and tire. thats what they said. The story is that i hit a curb while i was turning (stupid mistake) and my rim come out about 2 inches off my tire and the tire was almost flat. I took it to a mechanic and they put air in the tire and blew out the bad patch and put a new one. the rim went back into place while he was putting air in the tire. And now when i drive it feels a little different, less smooth, also when im going like 55 mph i start to hear like a rubbing noise in the tire. So im thinking that i have to replace the whole tire and rim. Thats alot of mula!!

Change the rim first..check the tire....unless the sidewall is cut..or you intend to track the car you should be fine

You need to smack it hard to do the bearing...so you are likely dealing with just a screwed rim

Try this place, http://www.fixrim.com/. They are out of Arlington Heights. They have a truck that comes to you.

Here's another: www.Wheel-Tech.com of Highland Park. You don't have to take the wheels off. Just drop off the car.

Local welders who can weld aluminum will be able to do it, I fixed a dent and crack in one of mine almost a year ago now and still have had no problems out of it. 40 dollars to fix it from a local weld shop

damn thats cool. Thanks alneilsen. So pepboys were trying to screw me or something. they wanted me to buy a new rim. But yeah now i just need to replace the wheel bearing which will cost 100$ at pepboys. i probably wont go there anyway. maybe i'll do it myself, if its not that hard

Now figure out if you really need a wheel bearing...

The unit bearings are quite tough....just because you cracked one of the OEM rims...doesn't mean you need a bearing..the OEM rims are like eggshells

Jack it up..and see if you can feel, or see a problem with the bearing.....

You don't think they could have been stupid twice

Its been raining and cold these past couple of days where im at. Is there any way i could see the bearing? Im no mechanic but maybe i'll figure it out

Jack up car...remove wheel.....hub/unit bearing is right there.....turn it...it should turn freely without any catches or flat spots......and have no in/out play
