I'd like to avoid spending $800 bucks for new tires but I want a good set of rubber on the car. I found that the OEM Bridgestons got wobbly and hard before I had even 10,000 miles on them. Plus, they're pretty expensive to replace.

What are you folks putting on your 8's?

Check ebay for good deals on tires, I bid & won 4 brand new Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT tires 245/45/18 shipped for $450 + $80 install (Tirerack sell them for $300+ each). It actually ride better for a runflat. Too early to tell if the handling will be better.

245/40/18 will this miss with your computer or have problems with your valvestems reading if your tires are flat?? Also would this change what the correct speed you are going over all?

Sorry resurrecting a old thread but figure it better then starting a new one on the same topic.

The 245/40 fits the OEM (8.5 inch) rim just fine, and the TPMS works. There is no affect on the computer. The wider tire is 1% smaller in circumference, so the axle is spinning 1% faster at the same ground speed, and the odometer and speedometer read 1% high.

I'm using the 245/40x18 KUMHO SPT, and I'm very happy with them. $660 for the set from TireRack after local mount/balance.

I put Kuhmo ASX 245/40/18's on my RX-8. So I am actually going just slightly slower than what my odometer reads?

I know the difference between SPT and ASX are summer and all season. The tire wear is also different. SPT tend to be stickier but won't last as long. I wanted tires that worked well in the rain and dry weather. ASX are rated W and SPT are rated Y. That means I can't go over 168 miles per hour( ASX) . SPT you can supposedly go to 186.. I don't put my car on a track and have no intention of going 168 miles per hour on a highway. Maybe just 150 on a local street.

From an earlier post of mine re: Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

I replaced my OE Dunlops with the Goodyears last week and did my first Autocross on them this past weekend. I'm favorably impressed with these tires. I got the 225/40-18s, so they're just slightly smaller than the OE 45's. The tires have a slightly more "crisp" feel to them in cornering, they're about as sticky as the Dunlops were, and they're very well behaved when they start sliding - no sudden transitions or nasty surprises. The 225/40-18s were $182 US apiece from The Tire Rack.

The Goodyears got rave reviews from Car & Driver, and came in first out of a field of 11 performance tires. Tire Rack surveys score them pretty high too.

The Tire Rack has a pointer to the full report here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y_f1_gs_d3.jsp
