Questions regarding a tire for multiple purposes...

Well, I'm debating on buying Hankook Ventus V12's, but they're a Summer tire. I have the spare money to buy more than one set, I'm not entirely in a pinch, I just don't feel like buying three sets of tires ultimately(Come next spring/summer, I plan on buying a set of strictly track tires.)

Anywho, I want to know, will they be fine to go through a winter where they will see snow(I'm not worried about their snow traction), and still be fine come spring again? I've heard summer tires will harden up a lot come winter, I want them to still be usable next spring/summer. Do summer tires soften back up, or are they ruined? If the Hankook V12's won't do that, well, I need a tire that will. I've had some Kumho All Season's on, and they just, well.. An auto-x weekend, a weekend at the TOTD, and 10k mi(Unknown mileage before I bought my 8, 10k since I bought it with them already on. Appeared to be new.) they're shot for traction. Tread is fine, but no grip left. I don't want that, because I'll be going to at least 2 more autocrosses this season.

Also, I've read how 255's will fit. I'm debating between 245's and 255's, and wondering if the difference is honestly worth it, if it's noticable. Stock suspension, and wheels. I've heard they rub with people in the rear, but from the threads I've read, they never say how bad. Is it under casual driving, or only pushing it? And pushing it, with just a driver in the car, do they still rub while autocrossing/HPDE and such?

Replies don't have to be strictly about these tires, that's just the one I'm considering. Though, I did just shred my Kumho's, so I'll be purchasing rather soon. I'm just interested in a whole lot more detail about them than "They're a good tire." I wanna know if they can, or what other tires can take having to go through, well, hell.

I also don't want to spend a ton on just normal daily's, since I'll be getting designated track tires later.

It sounds like you should buy a set of all seasons if you are

- worried about tread llife
-worried about cold weather
-want a set of do it all tires...with other track tires...

If you buy the V12's...you can't drive on them if it's below zero..they are like skates
you will get poor tire wear...you will have a huge smile on your face

the difference between 255 and 245 is so small I doubt that you will notice....and between different brands there might not be any difference at all

Personally....if you have to drive in snow you need snow tires...if you want track time..you need track tires.....and you need another set to just drive....but I am an idiot with a garage full of tires and rims

If it's below zero, I'll need a new place to live. I think the coldest it gets here, absolute coldest, is down in the teens. It'll get there often in the coldest part of the winter, but not colder.

As far as snow though, it's not like up north, we do get some snow, but not a ton, I've rocked all seasons every year and been fine, I was just wondering about these. I can drive in it alright until I just can't clear the snow anymore, I just don't want the cold weather ruining them. I'm curious as to if they'd still be fine come Spring again, everyone says to not do it, but, do they actually get ruined? Or is it just during the winter?

And yeah, I know about between different brands, I'm just wondering about the exact same tire, with just being a bit wider, how they compare. Though I am debating on going with 245's due to being cheaper, to leave money for other things. Though, ultimately, it is only $44 more for the V12's to up to 255's..

Decisions, decisions. I just don't want to have to rock 2-3 different sets of tires right now.
