I live in France so i'm sorry about my English

I 've just installed H-Tech Springs on my RX8 and I am very surprised that my RX8 seems to be higher than before with my old stock springs....

But after i read that Tein recommended to Cut the bumpers inside the coils before the installation...

And my mechanic didn't do it...

Is it possible that it's because of that, my rx8 seems to be higher? What's happened if I cut the bumpers ?

My mechanic said cutting bumpers has nothing to do with the height of the chassis..

Tein H-techs have a very small drop. You may not have preloaded the spring before tightening everything, hence the car will sit higher than it should. The bumper (bump stop) inside the shock and spring assembly has no effect on ride height. It should be cut if you have a significant drop, as it will make noise.

 

The suspension was probably not preloaded. the bump stop not being cut will only mean that your suspension will hit the bump stop too earl if you go over a big bump or something.

Search for preloading. The H techs are a decent drop. Thsi is a picture of my car with S-Techs and a friends with H-techs.

 

The car likely needs to have the suspension preloaded. It makes a big difference.

Why do you keep posting that picture? It's useless for a height comparison since that guys car is way too low.

 

It is what it is, unless someone posts a comparison pic of another 8 with H-techs then it is the standard for H-Techs. Many things play into ride height, tires, tire pressures, wheels, etc.

His car has seemed to sit lower than the normal 8 but then again there are guys with S-techs on stock shocks that sit lower than me. People need to understand that certain springs don't mean a certain definite ride height.

 

That picture definitely helps portray that. There just needs to be a disclaimer lol. I definitely know what you mean.

 

Looks like the tire profiles are deceiving the actual ride height of the two springs

I'm not sure I understand....What do you mean by "preload" springs?

Is it like "compressing" ?

My mechanic compressed springs before the installation on my stock coils...

But maybe not enough?

There is a picture somewhere but basically you do not tighten the bolts at the "A" arms all the way until the car has weight on it (even after you drive around for a bit). or you can us a jack, jack up the hub until the car starts to lift slightly, then tighten the bolts to spec.


sounds like you need a new mechanic.

I'll try this method

But to be sure i understood everything

1st : up the car with a jack
2nd : loosen the bolts at the A arms
3rd : lay down the car until it's on it's wheel with aall its weight on springs
4th : tight the bolts at the A arms
5th : change mechanic

Am I right?

 

Most people suggest driving around a little bit between 3 and 4. You don't even have to jack up the car to reach the bolts. You just have to turn the steering wheel all the way left for one on each side and then all the way right for the other 2. If you drive around, don't do any spirited driving as it will feel a little loose. Just go over a couple bumps or whatever to make it settle and then head back. Let us know how it works.

Just one more question..Is it safe to drive like this ?with loosen the bolts?

 

Yes it is fine. The bolts dont have to be about to fall off. Just loosen them a little bit so that the weight of the car can make it settle.
