Which profile is better?

I just bought a kumho ecsta 245/40 for the stock 18" rim. It seems really "wobbly" It feels like the sidewalla are flexxing a lot. Is it because of the different profile. Would the same tire in a 225/45 not do this or is it just a bad tire?

new tires have taller tread and you'll notice it's not as sharp as a used tire.

also 245 tires are wider than your 8.0" rims... so that might contribute.

well as an example, if i pull the wheel hard to the right and let go of the wheel it pulls back the other way and the wheel actually wobbles back and forth a bit. I can actually feel the tire flexing. Normal?

The 245-40 will have less responsive steering feel than the 225-45.
I don't think that I've ever let go of my steering wheel in a turn

I think it's less about the size and more about the brand of tire. I went from the stock Dunlops to a set of 245/40 BFG KDW2's and experienced the same kind of thing that you are describing. The sidewall was noticibly softer which caused a huge loss of steering response over the Dunlops. I voiced my displeasure to the tire shop that sold them to me and to my surprise they offered to replace them with another brand. I chose Fuzion (by Bridgestone) ZRi's in the same size (245/40) and they are every bit as responsive as the OEM Dunlops.

Good news, they said theyd take the tires back.

Can you guys recommend a few real good tires for around 150 or less. I know, cheap, but I can't afford more right now.

I want great handling with decent treadlife. like a 280 or better preferebly.

Let me know. Thanks!

You could start by playing with the air pressure, but that had no effect on the BFG's, even if Team does stand behind them. *shrugs* Maybe some sizes have softer sidewalls than others, I'm not the only one to complain about them.

Anyway, I'm quite happy with the Fuzions, and they are cheap. $122 at the Tire Rack, my shop had to order them but gave them to me at the same price.

The stock tire is a run flat.

You will notice a big differance with any other tire than a run flat.

I just happen to have the 245/40 -18 Falken FK452's. Nice and sticky, good tread life 270 I think. And the price is about $150. And did I say they were quite!

Stock tires (Dunlop OR Bridgestone) are NOT runflats.
