Pictures my Powdercoated Calipers

I went ahead and put on the PowerSlot slotted rotors, Hawk brake pads, and powdercoated my calipers. Here are a few pics. Questions/Comments are welcome

What did it cost you for the powder coat? What sort of life expectancy will it give in this application.

To break down and sand blast all four calipers, powercoat them, install the pads and rotors, took us about 7hrs. The longest part is breaking the calipers down. You have to make sure every rubber seal is removed. There is a tiny O-ring seal in behind the cylinder in the front two calipers that was a pain to get out.

The Caliper rebuild kit for the front and rear were about 40.00 per set (front/rear), powder was 20. The gun kit was about 200, but the cost of that was split two ways. We use the kit for alot of other things. As for the life of the powdercoat.... I use the most expensive powder. i tried to knock the color off by hitting metal against metal and it wouldnt come off. The manufacture said that the only way to remove the powder coat is to sandblast again. The calipers also clean VERY easy. Pretty much just spray them off.

I think they look great. Nice and slick so they should clean up easily.

Where did you get the rebuild kit from?

Check out my garage. I had mine powder coated and they are holding up great. It has been over a year and there isn't really any corrosion on the surface. Also, they stand out more than spray paint.

I don't think so. I bought my car used, and the guy who sold it to me owned a powder coating shop and had recently done it before I bought the car.

if you don't think so then it's most likely not powdercoated.
you can't powdercoat a caliper without taking everything apart, i mean pistons, seal, and all the hose well in this case no hose. they then will sand down the caliper and powdercoat it, after it's done, you'll have to rebuild the caliper that means put everything back together, be extra careful with the piston seal. That is a lot of work to do to a single piston rx8 caliper don't you think?

I was going to powder coat my claipers, however its too much time and effort to get it done. So i said eff it, i will stick with black paint.

But they look nice.

Ok then I guess he did rebuilt the caliper because he did take them apart and then powdercoated them. Check my garage and you can see the pics.
