Which path (sway/shock) to better chasis stability in quick transitions (slalom)?
I've read that the 8 has progressive springs that help with the ride. I enjoy the ride but want to tighten it up a bit. The shakey/woblyness of the chasis in fast transitions (slalom style quick small turns) is specifically what i'm trying to improve upon.
I have a 2007 Sport MT (stock). Application is for aggressive/spirited street (might touch autox later this year).
Some good discussions of the basics here: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=slalom
Good discussion of how sways shouldn't always come first and how there is a difference in street approach and track appraoch when it comes to stiff sways vs. stiff springs: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=slalom
My current thinking on suspension components in regards to slalom performance:
Sways: As I understand it, this chasis shakyness is due to body roll. Stiffer sways reduce body roll, therefore does stock + stiffer sways accomplish what i'm after?
Springs: seems to have the greatest impact on handling (besides tires). This is actually why I want to stay away from replacing the springs if possible. I generally like the feel of the stock ride and only want to focus on a small part of the handling. A lower ride couldn't hurt in the body roll reduction dept. though.
Shocks: I am considerings Bilstein HD shocks. Would stock + HDs be better for increasing slalom speed and handling than sways? Are stock + HDs & stiffer sways a bad idea (while keeping stock springs)?
Trying to navigate the upgrade path carefully with regard to slalom performance. Thanks for any feedback.
