pad and tire replacement Q?

I have an 07 Sport with 16300 miles on it. I have had it about 6 months and noticed that the tires are damn near worn to the point of replacement. The front brakes starting yelling at me the other day (havent had a chance to inspect them). What is the average wear rate (mileage wise) for the pads and tires? I find it hard to belive that at that low of mileage that brakes would need replaced so soon. I know this is not a really a viable comparison, but my SRT-4 brakes didnt need replaced the whole time I owned it (and I drove it so much harder than I do the 8), and I got about 24000 miles out of the stock BF Goodrich tires that came with it.

Tires are around 15-20K miles (the RE040). Pads should last longer, the RX-8 pads do have the tendency to squeek, you might want to check it out.

I had to change my brake pads around 40k. Believe me, the pads wear out pretty fast, and I don't even push the 8 too hard.

2004 original 8 with original pads and tires. Just rolled 24K. time for new tires, the noise these originals are making now is terrible. Brakes are fine, just had them checked, still have plenty of pad left.

Squeaking brakes don't necessarily indicate worn brakes, unless its the wear indicator sqeaking. Probably you just need to relube the shims on the back of the pads. Everybody is different but you should be able to get 30000+ miles out of a set of pads unless you are tracking your street pads.

I concur about the longevity of the OE tires. Max ~20K. At 33K, my mechanic said I had about 40% left on the brakes. So they can last a long time, but I don't autox or race my car or do a lot of heavy last minute braking.

Take a look at TireRack for tire ideas. I'm looking at the Hankook Ventus V12s for my next set. And looking at RacingBrake ET500 pads for my brakes and maybe RB rotors. Some people like Hawk Pads, but I read they leave too much dust.
