swoope, maybe it's the weight difference? I know Evo's aren't too heavy, but there might be a lot more loading on the corners?

I have heard they were kind of loud on some cars, but then again tire noise never bothers me as long as the tire does its job.

Tire noise is only an opinion, some people are just really sensitive to certain sounds. One person's quiet is another person's loud. They are max performance summer tires, they aren't supposed to be quiet. I couldn't hear my 275 Azenis and can't hear my 265 RE01-R's over the wind noise. I also can't hear the wind noise when I have my midpipe on, lol. If you have any aftermarket exhaust you won't be hearing the tires anyway. I can however hear my R comps over everything else, but I like the howl and they are only for the track.

^^^True. I honestly think that the heavier the car, the more noise the tires produce. I sold my R888's to an 8 guy I track with and there's significantly less noise, but oh well, that's why I put "imo" in my original post. heh, to cover for an instance like this. The load an evo puts through a corner is much higher because of the weight distribution and corner balance compared to the 8...so the scrubbing I mentioned earlier might not happen at all with the 8, hah. Well, honestly, my last thing, I hope you enjoy them but if not there's a lot more out there to try. To each his own with setup, so gl finding yours. Have fun.

So how are the new star specs. I'm going to be ordering these soon. What are your impressions.

I got them shipped. Did I explain the shipping fiasco? Anyway, they came a week late... I can't put them on this weekend like I hoped because I have to take the Fundamental Engineering Exams this Saturday and it's an eight hour test.

They look fantastic and I can't wait to get them on. I just don't know when I can make that happen. I'm trying for early next week.

Don't worry, I'll keep you guys up as things happen.

Update
So I just got it arranged to have them put on tomorrow night/Saturday morning. I have to jump through hoops to get this done since my wheels are in one place, my tires are in another, and then I have to bring the wheels, tires, and car to the shop on post, leave it overnight, then pick it up after they close. Haha... But I want these tires on now. I won't have the car again until Saturday night, so you'll have to give me a little bit to test them out. I was planning on doing it all myself, but I suppose it's alright to do it this way.

!!! THEY ARE IN !!!
So I managed to get them mounted today. My guys at the shop got them on the wheels before I finished that brutal eight hour test today. But I showed up early than we thought so I was able to help but the wheels on.

Initial Impressions:
Grip
It was apparent immediately these tires can grip, even cruising at 30 mph. The turn ins are so crisp and sharp they inspire amazing amounts of confidence. When I hit Rt 218 (youtube search and you should find some videos of the same; it's hanging off the side of a mountain) I began to push them a little to feel them out. There was no roll and these tires did not feel squishy at all. The harder you turned them, the harder they bit it seemed. I went faster and faster through each turn, trying to get the Z1s to react but they were a rock no matter how fast I pushed them. I was taking 25 mph rated curves at alittle under 50 without cutting the corner with the other lane; the tires were solid.

Noise
I didn't hear them over the wind noise, windows up or down, or the radio, or the exhaust noise. I heard them a little on a rough road. They are quiter than my winter tires (Dunlop Wintersport M3), that's for sure. I'm having a hard time comparing them to other tires; it's been a while since I've been on a summer tire.

Ride
Definitely a little harsher, but what did you expect from low profile tires. Definitely try to avoid all holes and bumps on the road. Nothing unbareable.

I can not say enough good things right now. Dunlop definitely has won my heart. I'll come back and give you all more as time goes by and I break them in a little more.

Track: Here I come!

I just ordered my Direzzas yesterday from tire rack. The $75 amazon gift card offer expires today so I pulled the trigger finally. They will be here on Wednesday. Once I get them mounted I'll give you my first impressions. I ordered 4 245/40/18 tires for use on the stock rims BTW.

I have the non-star spec version of these tires and absolutely love them (in stock 245 size). They have far more grip than you'd likely ever require on the street (unless you're driving like a madman), but you'll certainly appreciate them on ramps and such. Their rain performance is quite good as well. Noise-wise I've had far louder tires on other vehicles (i.e. Toyo Proxes T1S on my old GTI VR6), and I don't find the noise on the Dunlops intrusive at all.

I think you'll be exploring your limits as a driver before you overwhelm these tires.

These are one of my favorite tires!

Good for the money. Better than Azenis.

Very fast tires for the price on non R comps. I was only a second slower than a set of R888 at VIR, a 3.5 miles track. They are also not noisy like the old Falkens. They seem to be wearing okay, I expect 8-10K miles out of it.

Love these tires. Just bought my 2nd set today. Price has gone up, but I got a bit of a deal with the local shop that I do a lot of business with, got 'em for $960 installed (included alignment and what they called a performance balance). I got around 19k miles on my last set (no track time), but I probably ran them longer than I should have at least for wet performance but they were still fantastic in the dry so I kept them on and was careful in the rain. A little on the loud side, but who really cares about that. Love these tires.

Very good tires. Great grip, even into the high 30's. Also very predictable, confidence inspiring.

I'd say great tires except:
Tire wear: Looks like I'll get ~12k miles. I am a fairly aggressive driver, but no track time on these.
Noise: They are noisy, but most good tires are.

That said, I'll probably buy another set.

WHat's the recommended tire pressure for this tire? I'm mounting them on 18 x 9 rims, 245/40 tire size.

It can't possibly be the same as the stock recommendation found on the driver side doorjam.

I find that they run well around 34 psi for the street. It depends if you will be tracking it or not. The Direzzas like higher pressure on the track. I generally run around 35 cold at the track.

I run 36 cold pressure when racing. Usually heats up to 39 front and 37 rear.

Top gear, I saw your comment regarding the tire pressue. I run mine at 35-36 cold all around but after a 25 min session, they are usually around 44 front 41 back. Is there a reason for such an increase in pressure? I'm guessing my alignment needs to be adjusted. My current setup is below. Thanks for your help.

Front Camber -1.7
Cross Camber -0.10
Front Caster 6.9
Cross Caster -0.10
Front Toe In 0.05
Total Toe 0.10
Rear Camber -1.8
Rear Toe In 0.10
Total Toe 0.20
