OEM rims corroding ??
I just changed my after market winter wheels/tires back to the original wheels/tires this weekend on my 2004 Rx-8 AT Sports pacakge.
I noticed that the OEM rims had noticable corrosion spots all around the outer rim on the inside.
The aftermarket winter wheels I got from Tire Rack had no signs of corrosion yet they are used in salt and snow ??
It's not a big deal because the corrosion on the inside is not visable, but still I don't like it.
Anyone know why the OEM rims are corroding yet the aftermarket ones are not, do I have a claim with Mazda maybe ?

This is the first I have heard of corrosion on RX-8 rim. this occur on all four or just one?
I do not think the OEM rim are anodized, just painted silver.
Some Mazda 3 owners has similar issue with their 17" rim, and among them, few were able to get the dealers to replace them under warranty, perhaps you can try that too.

I am also seeing some corrosion on one of my OEM wheel. I have an 18in Shinka wheels (they're a little darker than standard) and around where the center caps insert into has paint bubbling and rust showing through. The car has only 9500mi on it and I don't drive where there is a lot of salt. Should I get it covered under warranty?

Guys,
I have the same problem, only mine seems like MAJOR corrosion that appears even on the outer part of the rims.
I've only had the car for 2 years, and I even store the tires for the winter!
Any idea what I can do? Are rims covered under warranty?
Here are some photos.

Check with your dealer see if they are covered and can replaced under warranty or email/call Mazda USA to ask if you can get the rim replaced under warranty if dealer says no.
Some Mazda 3 owners were able to get their 17" replaced under warranty, depending on dealer.
