Nitto 555 vs Toyo Proxies
I'm considering either Nitto 555's or Toyo Proxies. Anyone know which would be a better choice and the best aspects of each?
Thanks,
Ryan

yes i'm getting the 5zigen 5zr and Toyo Proxies wheel and tire package from www.edgeracing.com and I'm not sure whether i should buy the wheels seperately and get nitto 555's or get the package they offer with the Proxies. The addition of the Toyo Proxies to the package is about $520 and the addition of the Nittos would be about $535. So that's what I'm trying to figure out.

I am also ordering a wheel and tire package, but from www.wheelautohaus.com and those are the same two tire choices that I was given as well. I was going to post the same question you did, but I think I am going to go with the Toyo T1S instead of the Nitto NT555's, and then again I'm still not sure.

Proxes WHAT??? RA-1. T1-S, T1-R, 4, FZ4?
Saying "Proxes" by itself is like saying you're getting Bridgestone Potenzas - Bridgestone makes a dozen different models of tire in the Potenza line, with very significant differences between them.
FWIW - Nitto tires may be popular with the "sport compact" crowd (ie Honda Civic drag racers), but with the track day crowd (ie sports cars going around corners), they are definitely not regarded very well. A T1-S, the new T1-R, and especially the RA-1 will be a better handling tire than a Nitto 555.
However, "better" all depends on what YOU want your tires to do - great cornering and braking, smooth ride, quiet, long life, low price - you won't get all of those in one tire, so you need to specify which qualities YOU are looking for in a tire to get valid advice on what tires meet your criteria. What is better for me might not be better for you at all!

Gordon

I'm sorry, I didn't know there were different types. The website says Toyo Proxies 4.
My driving style is more reliant on cornering and handling. I do a lot of driving along canyon roads that twist and turn. Based on that what would you suggest?
Thanks,
Ryan

Proxes 4 is the all season high performance tire. If you are in Irvine (I'm in Glendale), you should definitely get a summer tire, ultra high performance or better. I made this choice a while back after posting a very similar question of this board. I wound up going with the Toyo T1S...from edgeracing actually. Been great so far.
