so my f14 18x10 et38+ is rubbing in the rears when I go through bumps or corners fairly fast, in effect whenever the rear suspension compresses hardly.
The rub is not at the fender itself--since I have enough clearance--but comes from inside the wheel well. from the sound of it, it seems like the wheels rub the most-iner piece of plastic that go under the fender right behind the wheels.
anybody can tell me how I can fix this? I've heard people talk about shaving the tabs, do they mean removing these plastic liner that go inside the fender?

The Reverend 09-20-2010 03:04 PM

shaving the tab is shaving down the bracket/mounting piece that connects the bumper to the fender I do not that think is your problem. Take off the wheels and feel around the liner area to see where the tire is rubbing onto the liner.

J8635621 09-20-2010 03:16 PM

Doubtful you are rubbing anywhere besides the bumper tab. Your fenders are rolled? What size tires and how low are you?

J8635621 09-20-2010 03:17 PM

10.5 +43 with 265s fits fine on the inside so why would 10 +38 rub there?

SPHINX144 09-20-2010 03:19 PM

fender aren't rolled yet, I'm lowered on tein s-tech--which only a modest drop. I'm running 275/35 all around.

The Reverend 09-20-2010 03:26 PM

ya so probly the tab too but feel the liner with you might have rubber being shaved off onto it

J8635621 09-20-2010 03:42 PM

Get your fenders rolled. That's problem 1. You definitely need that done.

Atilla 09-20-2010 03:55 PM

at full load the stechs will compress down a considerable amount (sorry i don't have the figures off hand) - but as J said, Get your fenders rolled, IMMEDIATELY - before the tire grabs the fender n' gives you a shit load of problems.

Also feel around where it's rubbing the inner plastics. You can shave inner plastics. I did this on my fronts.

SPHINX144 09-20-2010 06:16 PM

I will go to some shops this week to see if they can do it.

Was checking out the Forgestar f14 + Rx8 love for a friend of mine thinking about wheels. Very impressed with the size combos going on in here. Here are pictures of my second setup from Forgestar, I was the first G35 rocking these and I love them:

19x10+20 with 285/30/19 Hankook V12s
19x11+23 with 305/30/19 Hankook V12s

First setup was 19x10+20 with 255/35/19 Hankook V12s and 19x11+33 with 295/30/19 Hankook V12s, got tired of riding around on a 10mm rear spacer so when they came out with the lower offset range for the 19x11 a couple months later I sold my setup in the winter and got my current versions.

FYI, the centers must be removed before racing, they will come off. I was unaware that was a common issue. I'm in the process of making custom set of center caps for mine. They're just a little different but tighter fitting.

SPHINX144 09-23-2010 03:50 PM

I was thinking to put some sealant glue to hold the caps in firmly. I'm afraid they will fall off sometime.

They'll be fine for daily use, but they'll fly off like no other if you take them to the track.

It's happening to me too and I am 18 x 10 +42...Keep in mind this was with 3 guys above 6ft and 690 lbs total weight in the car.

Solution will be a dremel to shave this down. Not sure though...I will inspect and update.

BTW...
