After 140,000 miles, one of my rear shocks finally failed. I'm looking to upgrade to some decent coilovers but haven't really come across any clear answers. I'm looking in the $1,000 range. There's 5 different set ups I've been looking at and they all seem to have about the same reviews. There not ohlins or KW but for the price they work great.

1. Bilstein B14 PSS
2. K-Sport Kontrol pro
3. BC Racing
4. ISC N1
5. Tein FlexZ

All of them are in the same ball park as far as price but, I'd like to hear from anyone who is running any of these set ups. See what they like/dislike. Just wanna get a better feeling before I drop a grand on one.

I'm also not opposed to mixing up shocks and springs. I've hear good things from Koin shocks & H&R springs.
P.s I want a stiffer ride to feel mor connected with the road but at the same time South Carolina's roads arnt the best by any means

Can't speak to those 5 but I'm quite happy with MeisterR Zeta CRD I'm running. They're right around $1k and have only a small presence in North America, but are quite popular with the Miata crowd and motorsports in general in Europe. Great customer service as well.

I would not go with Koni, my experience with the sport shocks and Koni's customer service was less than spectacular.

Bilstein is better than all that other junk

With a quality product from a quality company, customer service rarely enters into it; you buy, receive, install, and drive.

^^ I agree. Given the options and the usecase, and having not actually driven on PSS, that would be my first pick. They're height adjustable only, but a well matched shock/spring combo will serve you better than DIY damping adjustments on coilovers in this range.

Awesome. Thanks! I really liked the Bilstein coilover. One of the only one that i found videos of in action. They are at the high end of pricing ranging for the mid tiers. Anywhere from $1,150 to 1,400. If there truly better ill have no problem spending the extra dollar instend of twice the price. I did manage to find a website based in California that had them up for $1,023.65 but they wouldn't ship out for another 12/14 weeks tho. I'm ganna bite the bullet and lock on the price while there $125 cheaper. As far as the dampening, i don't think I would be toying with them enough to fully take advantage of the feature. Thanks for the info and the reassurance!

I too am thinking of coilovers for my RX8. I have megan coilovers on my Dodge Avenger. They are the only company or at least at the time they were the only company that made coilovers advertised for the Average. I am very happy with the way they feel and all the adjustability they offer.

Did you end up getting the PSS coilovers? I got a used set installed on my car and they have been great. Much more controlled than the standard GT suspension.

I just got H&R coilovers..
i trust this brand and reason for choosing it is because they know their stuff..its my wife's car and i drive it from time to time.. i have 235/35 - tires and chose to put 2x 255/35 and liked it how it looked way better.. but after lowering it the 255 looks worse with the lowered look of it. I am. Going back to 235
Here are some picsAbout the ride..doesnt ride much stiffer than oem maybe 20% but car is much much kore responsive and preciseNo hardness setting on them..just hight. And its enough for a street car.

In an s2000 application the h&r coil over is a bilstein damper that is valved a bit different than Pss. I would go with those than any of the no-name junk. However even with a generally good company, there are misses. I wonder if the rx8 application uses a bilstein damper or other brand.
