Mazdaspeed Suspension Question

Just out of curiousity, what would you guys choose, mazdaspeed springs and shocks or mazdaspeed coilovers? I know the coilovers are not out yet but maybe i'll just change it to coilovers in general. Pro's and con's of both and which should i get? Just need the opinion of the club, thanks for your input.

they're not out and we don't even know the particulars yet, how can you or anyone else possibly make an informed decision?

Thats why i added on after that sentence "coilovers in general" because i know they aren't out. So the question is, springs and shocks or coilovers? When i refer to coilovers, not mazdaspeed ones but any coilover kits for the 8. Better than springs and shocks or not? If its a choice on preference, tell me why you would pick springs and shocks or coilovers? (Sorry for the confusion)

depends what your budget is, if you're looking for something just to mildly improve the handling performance of your 8 the ms shocks and springs would work well. But if you're looking to get your 8 corner balanced and have the dampening dialed in coilovers might be a better solution. If you have enough I would recommend you getting some zeals cost a pretty penny but sure is worth it (coming from someone that switched from jic flta2) I would recommend you talk to rishie at autornd he can help you out he's a dealer for most coilovers and can get you the ms stuff if you want too.

Cool deal, i want the best for my 8 so budget is not much of a factor. Thanks for your input!!! Hope to see you at the meet on the 8th!

If you are looking for some coilovers (& the best) then go with the HKS Hypertechs.

i have the spring/shock package... and i would highly recommend them. Coilovers are a whole new world, and if you don't know how to tune your suspension correctly you could end up making your handling worse than stock.

MS Spring/Shock package will provide you with excellent performance at a very reasonable price.

Thanks for all the help everyone... I like what BigO said about coilovers because it'll be my first time working with coilovers, i'm about to check out itsallaboutgary's write up and see whats up. But if i get coilovers, i'll probably need a lot of help on having to tune it. Thats the #1 reasont thats pushing me towards springs and shocks.

don't worry too much about dialing the suspension in. When you get it installed at autornd rishie can help you out with that. Getting the correct alignment specs are more important.

yeah exactly rishie will set up all the preloads for this car to make sure everything is perfect. have you decided what you're going to get yet mazdaspeed? =)

if you are gonna quote someone, really read what they say. he did not say springs & coilovers together.

that being said, i am in the same boat. money is a bit of a concern, but i would be willing to save up for a while if i felt that i needed adjustability. however, i dont have time to play around with all that stuff, & i think im just going to take the mazdaspeed setup. yay for my warranty...

here is my ""
first of all money is a factor for me cuz im married and have to pay all the bills by myself so i was thinking on lowering my car with the ms set up, i can get springs first but is it good for the car to install the springs and ride it with stock shocks until i get the ms shocks or will i be better off just wait untill i have the complete set up and then install them?...

PS i bought coilovers for my integra and ride it with stock shocks and didnt see no problem but just wanted to make sure this time if thats a reasonable thing to do..

From everything I've read on the MS springs and shocks, installing springs alone is not a good idea. Many have said that you end up with a bouncy, poor ride. Best to instal both at once IMHO.

DO NOT put MS Springs on without MS shocks. Won't work that way. MS Springs are specially manufactured for MS Shocks (which are substantially different from stock shocks), and will perform very poorly with stock suspension. If you want to put springs on your stock shocks go with either Racing Beat or maybe a set of Teins. Later you can get Konis if you still want to keep the springs.

hi, i am in a situation right now, money is a huge thing right now, and i know i will never spend more 1500 on coilovers, but i really don't have anywhere near that right now, i bought the tien s-techs and i really don't like them, they are alot stiffer but are also more bouncy and one big reason i want suspension in the first place is because i want to lower the car dramaticly, iwant to be able to tell that its lowered, because i love how a slammed car looks (imo yo can make any car look good with large wheels and a low stance) , and the tiens just don't do that, it says its a 1.3 in drop in the front but i can't see any difference over stock.

if i don't have the money to spend 1300 - 1500 on coilovers right now, should i just get some ground control coilovers and put them on stock shocks or should i splurge and get the tien basic set up, and wait till later on to get the coilovers, OR sit on the tien s-techs for now and save up for the tien flex CO's or a similarlly priced setup.

and also does anyone have any experiance with the tien cs damper setup

Tein S Techs are about the lowest you are going to drop the car on just springs. Some people like the ride after the install, some don't. From what I have read that just might be too far of a drop for the stock suspension/shocks and still function adequately. You are not going to go any lower on a stock shock/aftermarket spring combination. The Racing Beat only drops it about .5", the H&R's about 1", and the Tein H Tech's are less than the S Techs.

Might want to try the Tein EFDC. I have seen a car with it and you can adjust the height to where you want it to, but it is $$$$.

For the price of that Tein Coilover kit, you might as well go for the HKS Hipermax's. Top of the line.

actually sprint springs offer a 2 inch drop. H&R seems like the second lowest option from there then s techs..

I've seen both the Stech lowered RX8 & H&R springs lowered 8 and the S Tech car seemed lower. Not that they were next to each other, butt he S Tech one seemed the lowest I've seen so far. Never heard of the other brand you mentioned.

Forgot but I also saw a Eibach'ed RX8 and that was pretty low.

From their specs :

Front Drop :

Tein S Techs : 1.4"
Tanabe : 1.4"
Eibach : 1.2"
H&R : 1.0"

Rears :

Eibachs : 1.2"
Tanabe : 1.2"
H&R : 1.0"
Tein S Techs : .7"

EDFC stands for Electronic DAMPER force controller. Although the Tein models suitable for EDFC able to fully adjust ride height, but the EDFC cannot. It just adjusts your damper rate. To adjust ride height - you still need to take the wheel off and use the clamps.

Now my $0.02 MSV2,

I have seen the MS setup from a guy living 3 hours away and he is happy with it. He does not track his car.

I have heard from another guy that have a bit more money and get the Tein SuperStreet, happy with the ride and still only slightly harsher than stock.

I am using Tein Flex and track the car until the semislick melts and I think Tein Flex is not firm enough for me down the track.

Most Show cars have fully adjustable coilovers so they can go as low as they like for the car show and get defected by police

Bottom line: You pay for quality.

Recommended: (for Australia road and track).

Best road shock: Bilstein Fully adjustable.

Best track shock: Quantum racing spec, Tein SuperStreet with EDFC x 2, Aragosta.

Best all rounder: Fujita Engineering (HKS made) FM801, Tein Flex with EDFC, HKS Hypermax.
