Koni Shock question

Koni Shock question
I have a set of Koni yellow shock on my car. The front ones are adjustable. Yesterday driving down the bumpy freeway cause the nut on the front right shock to come lose and fell off. I found the nut but the washer and crusher were missing. Now my friend installed the shocks for me and I wasn't there when he did that. The front shocks can be adjusted using a "Key" that koni provided. When I tighten the nut down I found that the amount of the thread expose after tighten the nut is not similar between the left and the right side shock. Also the nut seems to be able to just keep turning and it doesn't hit a hard stop. What did I do wrong here? Can anyone explain how to tighten the nut on this shock properly? Thanks.

They weren't tightened completely the first time. There is a point where it will stop turning. Keep turning until you find that point. Once you do DO NOT over torque them. I don't remember the torque spec but it is low, I want to say 38-40 ft-lbs. Hopefully someone with a better memory or better information ill chime in soon. Just to make sure everything is safe, I'd check every nut a bolt that your friend "tightened" when he installed your shocks. Especially the nut at the top of the rear shocks. They are similar to the front nut that came off and I would want to make sure that it is tightened completely as well. The bad part is you have to remove the rear shock assemblies to do so.

Thanks for the answer. The nuts on the rear are OK so far. No creaking noise. It is the front one that give me problem. Talk to Koni they said torque to 37 ft-lbs. I torque it down this morn and the nut goes down quite a way but I am sure it is not at 37 ft-lbs yet. I will have to borrow a torque wrench from the tool shop and get this done.
