While keeping the stock shocks? How many miles have you put on them?

guys,...the drop isn't that drastic enough to wear out your stock shocks in such a manner where you have to worry about replacing them immediately after or during your spring install....sure it'd be ideal to do so...but you will get plenty of mileage out of the stockers...by then Koni or someone will have a good replacement that actually will add value and purpose to the replacement....don't let that deter you from going ahead and installing springs..

The Mazdaspeed shocks would do it. But see Xero's post above... it's not really that big of a deal.

Shocks usually last for 150,000 miles. I'm guess the S-techs will only shorten the lifespan to 100-120k.

I have approx. 7k on the shocks. Jason over @ the RX8Store (Columbus, Ohio) has always be good to me and I can't recall what he charged me but it wasn't a bad price at all.

NO shock in the world is designed to last this long. If you have an automobile with this many miles on it with original shocks, then you are clearly fooling yourself. Most shocks begin to lose effectiveness after 30-40k miles. It's this point where a rebuild or replacement is optimal. Since shocks degrade gradually, one is likely to not notice a difference (until you replace them with new ones!).

Well for my previous car, which was a civic, I did not have to replace the shocks by the time I sold it which was 127k miles. I spoke to their technician and they said that the shocks should last 150k before having to change them out. I'm not sure where you are getting your sources from.

I changed my "struts" on my civic at 60K and they were beat to hell by that time. Could've been the eibach sportline drop on the stock shocks though...

SOHCPUNK, you may want to talk to any mechanic who works on performance cars or any performance enthusiast who actually cares more about handling than looks to get some further information. In addition, why not do a simple Google search for shock replacement and see what you find. You may expand your horizons some.

troch, you are the last person to be telling me about suspension components and modifications. I'm simply telling you my experiences and that is the truth. You only have 3 posts on this board and I'm pretty sure my RX8 can out handle yours any day. I realize that performance shocks need to be rebuild or revalve sooner than stock shocks due to the high spring rate but I'm pretty sure the RX8s shocks can last longer than what you said.

I'm not here to argue with you, SOHCPUNK. You should not be so hasty to judge that which you do not know.
When you are getting your information from a Honda technician and that is what you base your knowledge of performance suspension components, that is your first mistake. Like I said, please talk to ANYONE knowledgable in performance or DO A SEARCH FOR YOURSELF. I could care less whether or not you believe me. I was simply pointing out that your original post about the longevity of shocks is total BS.

troch, go back and reread your post, I was talking about oem shocks lasting a long time. Why do you continue to say performance suspension when the stock shocks are not for pure performace but also to last long and give a comfortable ride. I agree that performance shocks such as Tein, JIC, Koni does not last as long but I was refering to OEM Mazda shocks on the RX8. Again, I am pretty sure that with stock springs and stock shocks, the RX8 shocks will not have to be replace in the time span that you said. So please stop trying to change the subject. Why do you persist to continue this argument when you know all that I have said so far is true. And BTW, you do care, why would you reply to my post. You have only 4 post and is new to this community. PLEASE respect people that have been on this forum longer than you and have owned the car longer.

Since when did the number of posts have ANYTHING to do with knowledge? Why should anyone respect incorrect assertions? I have NOTHING against you personally. The only point of my post is to protect those with little knowledge from learning the WRONG thing. If you don't believe ME, ask someone in the industry. Even you may actually learn something. Do your own search and figure it out for yourself.

I did not change the topic. Fact of the matter is that aftermarket shocks (Tein, KYB, Koni, etc.) are better in almost all respects to any factory offering. Therefore, if anything, stock shocks would not last as long as quality aftermarket ones.

And like I said before, since you know NOTHING about me, my experience, my car, my abilities, are you really in any position to argue with me when I have told you how you can verify what I've posted?

Hi all, I ordered a set of S Techs also. I will be replacing my RB springs, I really wanted more of an aggresive look, and lower in the front. I'll post pics when there on, not sure if I will do the job myself, or have a shop do it. I would rather do them myself, but would prefer help from someone who is familar woth this task.
