How safe is it to drive on tires with alot of camber wear

So right now my rear tires have alot of camber wear. The tires a fairly bald as it is but the inner sides are like smooth.

Obviously i know i need new tires. But im just waiting for coilovers from a buddy so i can install that and get an alignment. But my question is how long am i able to drive on these tires ? And how safe is it ? I know its hard to say without pics but those of you who rock alot of camber any input ?

Not safe at all man. I had major camber wear in my last set of Michelin PSS's. Didn't realize until it was too late and the car was on the alignment rack already. One tire had gouges and was corded.

It really compromises the structure of the tire because almost anything can puncture especially at high speeds. Plus stopping distances are reduced dramatically since theres no grip. If you can't cop a new set just hit up a local tire shop and try to get em flipped for temporary, but even thats still chancing it.

Right now I'm rocking a cheap set of 235/40/18 until I get some NT05s or Direzza Star Specs, might even go back to a set of Michelin PSS's if I get some for the right price.

Not safe if the tire has cords showing. You will also hydroplane very easily without any tread depth during a rain storm.

FYI.......large amounts of toe cause heavy tire wear, the camber mearly determines the contact patch area on the tire. A good tip if you are running large amounts of camber is to run zero toe (or at least less than 1/16" of toe).

Let me know if you need more explaination on the camber or toe setup, I will be happy to share the info.

It is difficult to say definitely if the tire is safe or not, but usually you are fine if no cords are showing. It will be unsafe in the rain due to hydroplaning though. Take a couple pics of the tire tread wear if you are still concerned and want a better answer.

Make sure you get an alignment after you install your coilovers.

If you are asking...likely that you already are concerned

Get an alignment and new tires before you end up in a ditch or an abutment

Well right now im pretty busy with work. You guys think its okay to drive on my winter tires for the rear right now leave the fronts. The fronts have a tiny bit of thread left.

I also need to find new rims and tires. So you guys thinkn its okay driving on the winters in the back for a couple weeks. When i took off the rears the rears had a it of camber wear too so ill slap on the fronts in the back this time.

Without pictures of the tire wear, we are all just guessing.

if the inside is as smooth as he's stating then there's not much guess work involved, seen it enough in my lifetime

but I understand what you're saying

fwiw, toe settings usually cause more wear than camber, the tire pointing in or out with camber scrubs all the rubber off like you described

picking up some 245 40 18 tonight. Really wanted to buy some Jdm rims that are mounted with tirres already but cant find any . Im just gonna get these mounted tomorrow on my stocks and then buy rims to put these tires on.

Now my alignment is still messed up with toe. So im gonna have to wait for my coilovers. So i can get an alignment after. You guys think itll be alot of tread wear driving like this to my new tires even for a couple weeks ?

Without actual numbers or pictures it's all guessing. You could have an alignment that is so bad it will screw up those tires in a couple weeks. You could have an alignment that takes over a year to ruin the tires.

Do you want a guess? Yes your tires are burning up right now. It looks like you have at least 12 degrees of toe in and 15 degrees of camber. I don't know how you can handle that monster on the street.

This will happen. The cords will start peeling off, and wrap around your suspension, compressing it. It will feel like you are being jerked to the side when you hit any bump.

These tires were Kumho Ecsta. I recommend them. They put up with a LOT of abuse and didn't kill me. I had to get what the tire shop had in stock because I couldn't wait for shipping but I will be putting Kumho Ecstas back on when I have to get new ones again. If I keep the 8 that long. Might just get another truck after I make the move to NJ in a few weeks.
