Hooray - my banging noise is gone!
Hooray!!! For those that may be interested/read my posts from last fall, I have 'solved' my rear suspension banging noise. For those that haven't - here is a quick recap:
- installed Eibach springs
- after install, had a very loud banging coming from the rear anytime I would go over a moderate-severe bump
- after much discussion, I re-installed my OEM springs in the rear and the noise went away. (I suspected a possible shock issue but this kinda disproved it)
- When I took the car into the dealer for the recall, they 'suggested' that my problem may be due to the aftermarket (RX8Store) cat-back hitting 'somewhere.
- I removed the cat-back and 'customized it in a couple places that looked like they were close to the frame and such (using a hammer)
- the car went into storage for the winter and my plan was to re-install the Eibachs in the spring.
Well, spring is here and I also decided to change the shocks along with the springs. This week-end, I re-installed the Eibachs along with Koni yellows (1 turn up from full soft)...........my noise is gone!!!!! But.....the only thing that bothers me is I really don't know if it was the exhaust or a shock but I'm leaning towards the exhaust.(although the shocks 'look' fine). If it wasn't the exhaust, then I'm a bit sad that I bent up the pipe with a hammer (although I guess no one will know).
On another note - this car now handles amazing! the Eibachs provide a great look and the Koni's add to the road holding ability that this car is already great at. I'm very pleased!
To those that added comments/suggestions throughout my ordeal - a big Thank You! (especially Phil at DPE). Like I said - No more noise!!!!! Hooray!

No...didn't really sound like a clanging metal noise....sounded like something was coming through the trunk. Hard to describe...it really sounded like a shock issue but..........
The noise didn't happen unless I was going over a 'sharp' type of bump and not with normal driving or going over dips in the road. It was very frustrating and annoying. And.....I could not see any place under the car that indicated the exhaust was hitting.....no marks on the underside of the car nor the exhaust pipe. It will be interesting to monitor this forum and see if anyone else has this problem and how they solve it.

they're lowered about 1 1/2 inch all around. But it's not a banging noise more of a rattling noise. Sounds like a flange is vibrating on metal type of noise.
I think another owner that had the ms dual setup ran into to same noise too. I think its maybe due to the dual design.

I was wondering what was the outcome to your banging noise too, apotocki. The thread just seemed to end on day without a fix. Glad to hear you figured it out. My Eibachs never did this with the RB exhaust. I would think it was the exhaust system hitting something.
