Question Help with choosing new tires - Input is appreciated!

Hi, I bought a used Rx8 last week with 20k km done on it. The bridgestones are ok in terms of tred but make a alot of noise since they have uneven wear on them. I have the stock rims and planning on buying the Kumho SPT tires to replace the OE tires.

Can someone pls advise me to which size tire I should buy. Am looking at a more comfortable ride rather than too much grip since i dont drive it on a track.

Currently looking at 235/45/18. Or should i be looking at 235/40/18? Should I stick with the OE size? Or if there is a better suggestion pls post it. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-3Ds.

I have these tires and while they are pricey, they are indeed comfortable, quiet, and wear very well. Also lots of grip and great wet performance (better than OE). If your priority is comfort, a taller thinner tire would reduce road noise. Not much of a difference between 235/45/R18 and 235/40/R18, the first one would be a little taller and wider than OE (slightly more grip, more comfort, but a little less responsive), and the latter would be a little wider and shorter sidewall (slightly more grip, less comfort but more responsive). Since the GS-3Ds have a pretty soft sidewall anyways, I would go for 235/40/R18.

I'd go for a stock sized tire in 225/45-18 since selection in 235/45-18 is rather limited and 235/40-18 is a smaller rolling radius, which means you're going to be losing some miles off your warranty.

try to stick with 225/45/18 tires, there are a lot of options available in that size now, unlike a few years ago.

SPTs seem like the perfect tire for what you're looking for. The stock OE size will be more comfortable and quiet compared with the Bridgestones and they are very inexpensive and should have good tread life. Personally, I'm a little disappointed with the SPTs but only because I miss the sharper dry performance of the Bridgestones. If you're located near me, you're more than welcome to try them out on my car. Another similar (but more expensive) option would be Toyo T1Rs, which might be a little more comfortable since it's a lighter weight tire. Both good high performance summer tires, both good in the wet, but not maximum high performance tires.

If you want to go for a wider tire, 245/40/18 is probably the most popular size for the stock rim (besides stock size 225/45) and they fit perfectly. It will also help with comfort because the sidewalls won't be as stretched as the stock size so they will tend to give a little more.

I have 245/40 Toyo T1R on my stock wheels and they are great tires. Great in the dry and in the Wet. They also don't turn into hockey pucks at 40 degrees like the OEM Bridgestones did. They are wearing very well so far, they still look almost new at 9k miles. All in all, I would most definitely buy them again.

I just had my new shoes delivered today.

Falken Ziex Ze 912.
Size: 245-40-18
But I'm running them on aftermarket Rims.

Edge Racing has good pricing.

2nd the Goodyear Eagle F1's (heck, if they're OEM on the 'Vette Z06 ....)

I prefer 245x40x18 on the stock rims however
