ExtremeContact DWS?
I've searched and haven't found anything about the Conti ExtremeContact DWS on these forums. Has anyone here tried them? In know there are some fans for the ExtremeContact (older version).
I spent last winter on a worn set of KDW's and it sucked. I only had one scary moment but it's kinda of embarrassing when you can't make it up your own driveway. I considered winter tires but the $$ isn't there to buy 2 sets, as much as I'd like to.

I'm also interested in hearing what people say about these tires as well. From the reviews & tests on the TireRack, these tires seem like a great all-season option. I just need something cheap and reliable for commuting.

I just bought the dw's (not the snow tire) and have put about 300 miles on them plus an autocross event with 8 runs. They run very smooth and are quite responsive and easy to turn. They cost me just under $400 for 4 tires shipped and taxed from onlinetire.com Can't give them a full review on them yet but they are looking good so far.

I have them for my Winter/off season tires on right now, Ive put about 6K miles on them during these last two winter blast that have occured in the last two months.
I love em, not only are they an excellent DryWetSnow tire they are suprisingly quiet for the type of tread pattern, and in general relatively speaking,,,
I will definately continue to get these for my off season tire...

I have had them for about 1000 miles now using them as my winter tires. They work great in snow and are quiet as well and have even aided a bit with gas mileage. Hard to tell what the real dry handling capabilities will be like so far because it has been so cold but so far I really like them and would definitely recommend them.

My friend recently got them for his G35 and he loves it so far. No complaints about comfort, noise or anything of that short. He thinks they grip great compared to factory tires also. I have the regular ExtremeContacts now but if I were to get ExtremeContacts again, I would go for the DW or DWS. Reviews for them have been positive.

I bought them last winter to replace stock tires. I have been using them ever since. I have put about 10k - 15k miles on them. They are a vast improvement over stock for wet conditions. They perform really well in Dry conditions. I need to rotate my tires now that I think of it

Those of you who follow the autocross world will know the name Andy Hollis. Among other things, Andy leads the tire testing for Grassroots Motorsports magazine. He's quite a knowledgeable guy when it comes to chassis setup and tires.
In a recent thread on the SCCA forums about rain-specific autocross tires, people were pointing to the Toyo R1-R as the best choice. While Andy agreed that the Toyo was a great choice for cold & wet conditions, he did say that the Continental DW is a better choice for standing water conditions.
That's a pretty good endorsement - good enough for me that I would seriously consider a set if I were looking for all seasons.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I went ahead and ordered a set in the stock 225/45/18 size from our RX8club vendor Treadepot (after their instant $25 rebate was applied, they had the lowest price anywhere). These should be good for driving back-n-forth to autocross events.
As I don't commute with the car anymore, these tires should last me a while.

I thought I chime in as well regarding these tires.
I replaced my (pretty much worn out) stock Bridgestones with a set of these in the factory size and could not be happier. Granted, my stock tires were shot (could have gotten maybe another 2K miles out of them before all would reach the wear bars), but the difference is of course night and day. The new tires are very quiet, have excellent grip and are very confidence-inspiring in the wet. After the swap, the car felt like a luxury cruiser as far as smoothness and noise goes, compared to the worn out RE040s. Ride is excellent too.
On top of that, my fuel mileage improved 1 mpg according to my consumption log (two months' period compared to two months after the swap). It was the only change so the result must be due to the tires alone, since I drove the same commuting route under the same traffic conditions and my driving style didn't change either. I didn't think tires alone could cause a diference like this.
