Gave me the alignment sheet and I didn't notice til I got home that the specs were for a '95 RX-7. I called back and a service person told me they didn't have specs for the 8 and Mazda told them to use the old RX-7 specs. Is that BS or what?

 

You already asked this here in a thread 2 days ago - the same answers you got then still apply!

Go back and compare the two posts. They are different questions. The first post asks if anyone else has had their Mazda service department use RX-7 alignment specs on their RX-8. The second post asks if this would affect tire wear and handling.

Two different questions, two different posts. No one in the first post gave me any feedback about tire wear and handling - but Spin9K was kind enough to post the correct, Mazda-sourced specs, at least for the front. Then I searched for the complete specs, and found them myself.

However, no one had mentioned anything about tire wear or handling differences with the wrong alignment specs. So I posted another question to try to get some additional information.

My apologies, you're right - I didn't notice that you'd asked a question in the post header, when I read your post I just saw the question "Is this BS or what?", which was answered in the other thread.

Actually, mikeb is right also - the tire wear and handling aspect should have been a follow-on post in that original thread, there was no need for a separate thread. But that's beside the point!

(Seriously, when someone quotes a post, or composes a reply, the post subject line is not shown - whatever you type in there is not seen to the responder... please write what needs to be read in the post itself!)

Anyway, to the tire wear and handling question - handling is always affected by different alignment settings. As I mentioned in the other thread, the RX-7 and RX-8 rear suspension designs are completely different, so it would be purely coincidental of the alignment settings needed to be the same.

Why don't you type in what your RX-7 based alignment settings are, and then we can see if they'll cause any problems?

The RX8 has it's own settings, they need to do manual alignment by plugging in the numbers into the computer... GO BACK AND HAVE THEM DO IT RIGHT!
