Coilovers - Tein Basic, Megan Racing, Tanabe

I was considering springs for a while but decided that coilovers were the right way to go and would end up regretting just getting springs. So I ended up getting a Cobb ap and a midpipe cause my dad doesn't really let me upgrade the car so I decided to do some upgrades he wouldn't notice.*

Now I'm looking into getting some coilovers, I'm not completely set on getting them but I'm looking into it now. So I was checking AssaulTech and found the Tein basics Megan Racing and Tanabe coilovers all for under $1000.*

Which ones would be the best just for daily street use? I want a comfortable ride but awesome cornering and handling. Also the drop isn't a huge deal to me. I don't plan on putting it real low yet as I don't want my dad to notice but probably will in the future.*

A few people on here said the basics are really stiff and not comfortable for daily driving. Haven't heard much about either of the others so I would love to hear some opinions. *

I would get in touch with one of the vendors on this site. THMotorsport did me a great deal on Stance coilovers. Which are typically a $1500 set. I love them they are great for street and Autocross.

Adam the guy your found from THMotorsport has won many trophies with Stance, I have had them on a few weeks and love them they knocked about 2-3 seconds off my Autocross time and TrevorTII also has them and likes them.

How would they be just for street use? I'm don't do an auto crossing as of now and probably won't till I'm a bit older. Are they stiff?

That's the beauty of coilovers you can make them soft or stiff. But I was really surprised how good they felt the car feels, more poised over bumps, it is firmer but not harsh at all. I have my fronts full stiff and the only time it is harsh is over speed bumps and if you cross a really uneven intersection too fast you can almost jump the car. If you set it to a medium stiffness though (as recommended) the drive is better than stock and the car just feels planted on the road.

sounds great but the problem for me is just the price, maybe if i could find a used set for sale. but i am going to college in a year and a half and will probably be leaving it here as it is very possible i might end up in hawaii or california and im in texas :/

Ill start scoping for some used sets on here, i need to sell my subs first anyways so i have some time so sit and wait for a deal or two.

It all depends if you can find a buyer. Check the FS section or ebay and see what they are going for.

I am keeping mine because I can sell the coilovers for much more when I get rid of the car and they wont add to the cars value.

If you are new to modifying your car the best advise I can give you is save you money and buy high quality parts. The Rx8 is very well built and most budget parts will be a downgrade. For example the induction is a cold air induction and you cannot really improve it with any after market parts (my opinion). The suspension comes stock with non adjustable coilovers and the exhaust it 3" pipe. What that means is most aftermarket parts are not an upgrade.
So buy less parts and get the best parts available you will be much happier.

thanks for the advice. I was figuring i could buy aftermarket coilovers and then just sell my stock ones so i could afford more expensive and better quality coilovers.

havent really found anyone selling stock "coilovers" so if i installed aftermarket ones, what would i basically have to sell? like the components of the stock coilovers?

Well one of the reasons I put in the coilovers was because I had a blown shock which is quite common so you might be able to get rid of them the way but you would probably have to sell the fronts and rear separately. With them coming on the car stock they are not worth much. They are interchangeable with the Miata's though (not sure about spring rate) so you could also try to sell on their forum also.
