Coilover incomplete or just a pain?

We've just stuck HSD adjustable coilovers on our track RX8, the fronts are easily adjustable by just taking the wheel off, however the backs are a different story. Does anybody know if we are missing a lock ring for adjustment purposes up top? In order to increase the ride height, we need to unscrew the gold threaded body out of the black threaded base, though there is nothing to grab onto and the only green lock ring up top doesn't have anything to butt into unless being used to lock the height. Do we actually have to take the entire coilover out of the car to make adjustments? Just unbolting the bottom is a nightmare, there is no room to turn it.

Here is a couple pictures.

Thanks.

Don't have experience with those directly. Looks like they are preload and height adjustable. Looks like you need to unbolt the lower portion of the body from the lower mount and spin the black portion to desired height. Odd setup though, b.c you will still be changing spring preload every time to adjust that. Other brands like k-sport and Tein do similar things but usually the spring perch isn't mounted on the lower body that moves for height adjustment.

Not sure how you have your car jacked up, but try removing your sway bar endlink. Should let the suspension droop more to have more room to spin that lower body

That rust,

You have to spin the bottom of the shock and when you get the length right you tighten the lock ring down. It is a bitch to do in the car, the Stance, Powertrix, etc are all like that. They should probably be run with little to no preload on the springs but you would need to ask HSD to be sure. But HSD's in a track car?

Thanks very much, got it all setup now. I've personally never experienced a coilover where you must unbolt to adjust height. The ones I have on my FRS are adjustable without removing anything but the lock rings.

Thanks again!

This province haha.

Thanks for the input, got it all setup now. I've always run HSD's in my track cars with very good results. Only thing that I would ever upgrade to would be KW's but they are a bit out of the budget right now. We do a lot of time attack events and the HSD's have never failed us.

lol.....ironic i'm checking the boards for this problem and bam! .....as i had this exact frustration over the easter weekend. you have to basically unbolt everything and adjust at the bottom ....total pita. the trick is to measure and calculate so you only have to adjust twice.

we get really bad rust here because of salt. i oil and under coat and summer drive only and i still have rust from years past. sucks. maybe not that bad.... yikes.

If I understand,

You use the "take it apart" procedure to get very close, then can still use the spring perch for fine tuning. the dampers are adjusted from the top, right?
