Cable chains vs???

Say, wanted to hear from some people re: snow equipment for my 8. Anyone used cables for getting around in the snow? How have they worked with the small fender clearance?

I've tried spike spiders, they work okay - last year someone stole one side that bolts to the wheel... so I'm wondering about other ideas and how the cables have worked for people.

Thanks!

I have been using cables for the last 4 years. They always got me to work and back home. IT was the in between that sucked! Putting them on properly in warm dry garage is a challenge, nevermind on the side of the interstate. . .! The last couple years I would actually jack up the car in the garage the night before a snow storm and put them on. So they will work. Snow in WA State is hit or miss. Driving with the cables on bare or mostly bare roads is painful.
This year I said no more and bought a couple rims and snow tires.
