Broke My Lug Lock Key how to remove locks?

Anyone know how to remove a lock if you have destroyed the key (long story that you don't want to hear) [ I am talking about wheel locks here folks]

Well, your problem is magnified 4-fold, since you will want to get a full set of the key and four matched locking nuts from your dealer. The dealer or a wheel/tire shop can then swap out the locking nuts.

is the wheel lock intact? (aside from destroying the key part)

OR

did you break the thing in half?

Take it to the dealer they will usually take them off for free. I had to do the same thing a couple of weeks ago. They can order you a new key if they don't have yours in stock.

1. The Lock is not in fact broken
2. It is not the factory lock... (its a nice titanium one)
3. I need to get them off so I can buy a new set, as the locks I have were picked up by my Brother-in-law in Japan (Navy)
4. The locks are not the star type (you know with the wacky shape on the top) they are a circle with 5 ribs on the side.

Thanks in advance.

well if yer trying to salvage the lugs, i dont know what to tell you. maybe you can contact the manufacturer (that is, if you know who that is).

i don't know how else to get them off by yourself without ruining the lug by hammering a socket onto it.

good luck!

If you take it to the dealer they will use a air chisel and ruin your rim. I happened to me and a few others as well.

at this point, why use the locking lugs. If someone wants your wheels now, won't thye just swipe the car. I got rid of my dealer provided crap locking lugs. They only caused me trouble.

There are a couple of different option i would recommend.

If these were the factory locking lugs (i know they are not) you could call McGard at 800-669-6887. They will need some information from you and then they will send you a replacement key next day air normally for free.

Because these are a spline drive tuner style lug nut i may have a key that will work for you. We carry three different types of spline drive adapters and one of them may work. I would need to see a picture of the lug nut with some basic measurements: head diameter, number of splines. Give me a call if you would like me to look into this for you.
