Brake Pad Fit Issues

Brake Pad Fit Issues
Hey Folks:
So,,, Went out to replace my rear brakes and rotors this afternoon. Rotors were in pretty rough shape and the pads basically gone. Bought this vehicle a few months ago, 70K on it, 2004,, and no idea when the last owner even took a peak at the breaks..
So I'm pretty poor at the moment, so I grabbed the cheapest pads that Advanced Auto had for the RX8. And a new set of Rotors from them..
1. Here is the problem,, They are too thick.. I have turned the caliper Piston back as far as humanly possible, this i am certain. Used the special tool and such,, It can not be pushed back any farther.
So here is what i did
1. Took of the Caliper, then took of the rotor, and put the new rotor on.
2. Released the hand brake, opened the master brake cap. It is also at the Full Line.
3. Took out the two old Pads
4. Pushed the Piston all the way back in with a clamp and special tool. This thing can not be moved any more, not a chance.
I then put the new pads in, but they are literally 2MM to thick, If I had only a few more MM it would fit, very snugly but still would fit.
I tried getting it on both by having the caliper completely off, and also with the caliper on, and unscrewing the one upper bolt so it unhinges and one can simply place the new pads in. Still just slightly too thick to fit over the rotor.
Old Rotor is the same thickness as the New Rotor.
I did not even put the thin pieces of metal on the new pads for the screech when the wear,
SO WHY Don't these babies fit?/
Am I missing something here? some clip or something? I've have read through the multiple guides on this site and don't think I’m missing something.
Can I just sand these down the few MM's and stick them in there? What's the deal?
Thank you everyone

Sounds like you did it right, just to be sure you did screw the piston in not just push it right? Also the OEM rear pads have a post on the back of the backing plate that needs to slide into the slots on the piston, you lined up the slots with the posts correct? If you did all that right you need to try another brand of pad.

Yeah I screwed the piston back in, not just pushed
justjim- Are you referring to the little Notch that has to align with the piston notch? If So, it is to tight of a fit for it to even get to that point.
I'm going to give it another look in about 30 minutes, and review my work, then go see what advanced auto has to say. They pulled these pads right from their computer for a 2004 RX-8, it would be pretty crumby if its possible they are an incorrect kind.

So little update, they gave me the wrong pads....
The cheapest pads in Advanced Auto's database dont actually fit.. I guess some Advanced Auto's know this, and some don't. Mine did not.
Got new pads, the correct ones, fit like a glove.
Thanks for everything,
