Bilstein b6 b8 info

Just posting this here because I could not find this info readily though it may have already been posted, and is buried somewhere.

So People of the Future can easily find:


From Bilstein, my questions in blue.
1. Is the valving different between the B6 and B8 versions?

No, they are the same in that regard.



2. Is the shock body length different between the B6 and B8 versions?

Yes, the B8 is shorter in order to better capture a lowering spring, please see the extended and collapsed length for all 4 dampers below.


24-110044 – B6 Front

I have B8's all around on Tein S-tech springs. It's a nice combo.

That is what I have at the moment. I thought the Ohlins would be in the budget in 2023, but they are not. My stock 230k suspension was totally done, and I needed a quick/cheaper remedy as a temporary measure, and the Bilsteins fit the bill(stein).

So far so good. They are pretty nice actually, for a DD. Plush and pretty well damped with the stock springs.

I might suggest the non-adjustable Koni SRT shocks as an alternative, but honestly you can’t go wrong on either brand imo

My son has the SRT on his Mustang GT, and they are good. I probably would have gone with them instead of the Bilstein but could not find stock quickly. Barely found the Bilsteins as it was.

I tried both Bilstein B8 and Koni Yellow on my e34 BMW and the Koni's are superior with Vogtland springs. The front Bilsteins would crash right to the bump stop at certain times with a specific frequency and amplitude of dip in the road. It drove me nuts.

But, I like both brands. We have Bilsteins on almost everything now, from B4 to B8.

Forgot to add I had a warranty claim on an ancient Bilstein HD on a BMW that leaked. It came with the car when I bought it. I didn't have a receipt, and they sent me a free replacement after I gave them the numbers on the shock. I had to send the shock in for inspection to keep from getting charged but it was totally seamless. Great company.
