Isn't this thread a request for a set of performance tyres in a road "racing" application?

if you wanna shoot this down I welcome you but at least be more elaborate.
I should make clear that loading the tires and using whatever technique to break traction happen almost instantaneously. You're not already cornering having had your tires loaded for ages and now just breaking traction.

ryccoh - I understand your reasoning, and I think you are onto the right path for drifting, but I was just confused with how you posted your explaination.

Essentially you are saying that a stretched tire is better for drifting. You originally said it would be better since it is has a more predictable limit of traction. Having a narrower tire will increase the stiffness of the tire sidewall, which means you will reach the limit of traction quicker. I am not a drifter, so I won't guess as to which way is better for drifting.

A more predictable limit of traction for a few circumstances which mainly apply to drifting. But yes you're right this more predictable limit does probably not apply to all situations.

Anyways I can't state anything more definitive unless I was to hire a few physicists now and rented the local supercomputing facility.

shamless plug - I am selling a set of 17x8 Kosei K4R's that weigh 14.9 lbs each. Check classifieds. They are about the lightest rims I could find without breaking the bank.

Since we're talking about drifting... drifting, believe it or not, is better the more grip you have and the more power you have to spin the wheels. You want grip so you can control the car. Btw, are there any other 8 drifters?

blacksheep515, do you have a manual? or at least an auto with sport package? I'm wondering how easy it is to fit 17"s? How close were they to other parts? Where can I buy some super cheap 17" wheels (preferably lightweight for drifting)?

Blacksheep had a R3, but he has since sold it and moved on. All R3's are manuals.

Almost all 17's fit over the sport package front brake calipers, but this is offset dependant. There are many people around here who run 17's. Check out the "calling all 17" wheels thread".

I run 17's as my winter set.

Enkei RPF1 is relatively cheap for the weight in the 17x9 and 17x10 sizes. They will clear the OE Sport/R3/High Power brakes, but not most or all aftermarket brake kits.

kind of doubt it because BBS isn’t really known for light weight, but more info is needed
