BBK Track pad recommendations?
I recently acquired a Wilwood BBK 14" front 13" rear with oem rear caliper ( as seen here: http://www.tceperformanceproducts.com/rx8/kits-7/)
I'm not sure where to start for track pads. With the OEM calipers i was on DTC60's in the front and HT10's in the rear with 255 BFG R1 tires. I loved this set up. They gripped well, never faded and had really good wear characteristics. Oh yeah, and i was using Racing Brake two-piece rotors which im going to shamelessly plug that im selling... now --> https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-parts-sale-wanted-44/racing-brake-2-piece-slotted-rotors-229932/
I still have a set of HT-10's i can use on the rear if choose and my current front pads in the Wilwood calipers i believe are Wilwood BP-10. I dont really fall into the "reasonable light track day" category so i dont really want to use them. I've had too many bad experiences with using "light track" or dual purpose pads on the track. Also, i'm taking a brief hiatus from track tires so i'm going to be on brand new 265/35/18 Nitto NT05 which should be here tomorrow, yay
So, from the people out there running BBK's on the track or the resident brake men (you know who you are ) what do you recommend?

I run the same rear kit with the racing brake front BBK. I have been running dtc-60 pads all the way around and while they work great, the rear rotors were eaten up in 1 set of pads. I talked to Todd (and you should do the same) and he recommended a much less agressive pad. HT10's might be ok, but you could probably go with more of a high performance street pad with running that massive front brake kit and the large 13" rear rotors.

I took Spin9K advice and went with cobalt x2 up front and x4 in the back. pricey? yes. A lil squeely? yes. But boy do they bite and wear well. Send him a PM if interested.
PS. I'm running 1 piece slotted rotors from racing brake and stock calipers.

Are you saying your rear rotors were destroyed because they did not get up to temp? How did your front rotors fair with the DTC-60s?

I had planned on using HT-10's in the rear. Just DTC-60's in the front. I figured it was close enough to the same F/R ratio the stock brakes had so i should still stagger the pads.

It's that time of year again
Last year i ended up going with Cobalt Friction. Andie suggested the XR2 for the front and the XR3 for the rear. The performance of the pads was great. There were a lot of variables at play at the beginning of last season.. i switched from 255 BFG R1 to 275 Hoosier R6, from OEM calipers with Racing Brake 2-piece rotors and Hawk DCT-60/HT-10 to a Wilwood BBK 14"/13" with Cobalt XR2/XR3. So im not sure how much braking improvement was attributed to the pads alone but my braking abilities we substantially improved. Where i used to be braking around the 3.5-4 braking zones i was now braking at 2-2.5. The new setup just sheds speed so quickly and you have the confidence continually brake late.
What i didn't like about the Cobalts is that i didn't get much life out of them. Ok, i suppose it was average, six track days, but for $350 or whatever they were, sheesh! After the last day they started crumbing at the edges and two of the pads had big chunks of material missing. The other thing i didn't like is that they seemed to be really rough on the rotors. The Wilwood BBK i purchased used but the rotors looked almost brand new. I'm sure they had quite a few miles on them but there was no lip whatsoever. After 6 track days on the Cobalts i'd say i only have 25% life left in the rotors.
So that's that. Great pads, nothing to complain about in the performance department but they definitely have their downside (at least in my situation).
I'm going to try new pads this year and i'm leaning toward Carbotech. Either xp12/xp10 or xp10/xp8. I really dont want to give up the performance i had in the cobalts which is why im leaning toward the xp12/xp10. I'm just hoping for a slightly longer life and less rotor wear. That may be asking for the impossible though

That is good, but be careful. Tires, ability and confidence are what reduce the braking distances. Upgrading the brakes are not going to do this, unless they were overheating, fading and you were braking early to compensate for that.

That's a little misleading. Assuming you're not already exceeding the grip of the tires upgrading the pads will absolutely help you shorten your braking distance. By upgrade i mean going from a street or dual purpose pad to a track pad. There is a huge difference. Ability and confidence and the shortening braking distance associated with them are just byproducts of a capable braking system.

This is a long shot because i dont believe these are made for the OEM rx8 calipers but does anyone have any experience with Performance Friction 01 or Raybestos ST-43?
I'd have to get the PFC's milled down but the Rays come in the exact pad size i need.
