Base Suspension vs. GT Suspension
Hey guys/gals, I have a Base 04 Auto. Rx-8 and I'm about to buy a GT suspension off of a rx8club member and I wanted to know what the big differences I'll notice with the different suspension.
I searched for this but got nothing so I truly apologize if this is a re-post but I just want simple answers about the differences.
Plus, will it affect the ride height? Will the car sit lower or higher with this suspension?
Any advice will help. Looking forward to getting some answers, thanks in advance :-)

krock: I don't believe the ride height will be any different between the two suspensions. As for the exact differences, I'm not really sure to be honest with you.
I did take off my suspension (grand touring model) recently and the struts were Tokico. Not sure if that helps...

Hey Krock,
Guess I'll chime in since I myself have a Base 04 A/T and already had the same thing done to my baby back in Feb.
Their is a ride hight difference but not by so much you'll be saying "OMG Ima Low Riderz nowz!" lol.. but I wish to say from looking at the springs when both where side by side was about .5 inch atleast. You'll feel the difference right away btw, the car will feel more confident in all aspects of driving. Mind you I also got the GT sway bars installed so I'm sure that helped alot. The sways are different also and again once installed the car felt well more planted overall. The base suspension to the GT is like night and day pretty much.
For comparison's sake before with the Base Suspension doing about 90mph it started to feel well light, like my car wanted to float around and stuff. Now it doesnt feel like that till about 110 or so (or so I'm told of course). Once I upgrade my rims and tires I'm sure this will all but disapear.

Oh also the Base Model also has Tokico's same as the GT. Difference is the Base has a Yellow Label and the GT has a Red label. I dont remember any specific names on the shocks but the color labels are a indicator as to what level of shocks you have. Curious as to what color label the Shinka's have hmm...

This was only an issue in 04....with the release of the 05's, there was no GT/Base option for suspension.
There was definately a noticeable height difference in GT and base models when I bought mine in 04. I remember this specifically, because it was something I noticed right off and I asked the salesperson if there were different suspension options. He didn't know, so I looked at the stickers.

From what I remember, there was base....and then there was upgraded. With the upgraded, both the GT and GT2 packages had the same suspension....it was just the base model that had differerent suspension.
Erica's 05 was a base model, but she has the same suspension as my 04 GT2.

^I believe they are the same. In 04 if I remember the convo's I had with a few members was that the Base Models has the lowest in well everything (hence base), the Touring and GT models had their upgraded suspensions but both where the same believe the difference was in regards to Nav and Stereo but everything underneath was the same, and the Shinka's had their special shocks.
