base modl suspension question

got a odd question that searching doesnt seem to find me the results im looking for....i know the sport/touring suspension can be an upgrade for the base models for the springs and shocks....and they sways are an upgrade for miatas.....but are the sways in the sport/gt the same as in the base? or are they beefier?

I believe all suspension on manual cars are the same, at least for 04-05. In 06-07 I think the base was deleted and called the sport and you had to add a "performance package" to a sport to make it the same as a 04-05 sport. But i don't think any of that affects suspension.

I don't think trim level affects the suspension at all. The difference between the auto and manual is that the manual had stiffer springs/shocks, bigger brakes and wheels, more HP and CF driveshaft. I believe there was a package you could add to an auto to get the 18" manual wheels and stiffer springs/shocks but I'm not sure.

Base model AT in 04/05 has smaller front brake rotors and softer suspension. The Sport AT has the upgraded suspension in 04/05
In 06 AT they got rid of the Base model and call it a Sport. It (Sport) has the same suspension as the prior years Base model.

These are options on the Sport Package and standard on the Touring package

Performance Package AT 2007

* Xenon headlights
* DSC with traction control
* Fog lamps
* Tochigi Fuji Limited Slip Differential
* 18" alloy wheels and 225/45R18 tires
* Larger brakes*
* Sport Tuned suspension*

Performance Package MT 2007

* Xenon headlights
* DSC with traction control
* Fog lamps

According to this the 07 MT (Base) Sport has the Tuned suspension and larger brakes already. The AT Sport does not.
Really don't know about the sway bars at this point in time.

The base AUTOMATIC is the only US RX-8 that has the softer suspension. That suspension has smaller anti-roll bars and I think softer springs and shocks, not to mention 16 inch wheels. All other models run the stiffer suspension (henceforth known as the sport suspension) with 18 inch wheels. The Shinkas have a slight shock upgrade over the basic sport suspension.

so in other words the anti-roll bars (sways) are bigger/thicker on the GT/Sport than they are on the base auto....

Hmmm it only shows one bushing for the two sway bar choices. Sounds to me like the same diameter on the sway bar. Just don't know why the price difference.

softer front/rear anti-sway bar and softer shocks/springs that go with it

https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...89&postcount=8

the rear sway bar is the same OD but is a thinner wall thickness = slightly softer
