Backing Plates

Has anyone painted or replaced their backing plates behind the rotors? Mine are pitted and rusty in a few places from the wet Winter. They are cheap enough to replace at $19 each vs. sanding and painting. Just curious if I am the only one that does not like rust

I hate rust, luckly I now live in an area that doesn't get snow hardly ever so I don't have the problems that they do elsewhere (plus I've got the jeep for bad weather). Shoot, for $19 each I'd buy new ones if it bugs you, or try and paint them and it doens't hold up then replace them!

When I did the G2 paint on the hubs and calipers, I silver G2ed the visible backing plate area as well. The epoxy paint looks as good now as it did 18 mos ago. If your replacing them, it would be easy to do a good paint job on them so they'd stay nice longer.

That's a good idea to just paint the edges that show. My new rotors are on the way, and I started looking the brakes over and noticed the rust. Aren't these plates aluminum?

Nope. Tink them with a screwdriver... they sound like tin can material.

Well, I would guess they help with keeping the brakes cool. And besides, like I said earlier they are cheap to replace.
