I've seen these for sale in the mid to upper $800 for the whole set but I was wondering if anyone else uses this setup. I'm not a autocrosser but I would appreciate a lower stance.

my friend use it, it's great for street, non-adjustable shocks usually come with 8/6 spring rate, the ride height is adjustable so it's just like the mazdaspeed shock and spring plus the height adjustment.

 

ive had them on my car for a year now and they are great for street driving. havent had a chance to get some autocross in or a track day, so im not sure how they are for track use. for street driving they are great but ive decided i want lower to im gathering parts for my new setup now

 

Have u looked at the Megan racing coilovers? They go for about the same price, see which you prefer.

 

They are def great for the street especially for entry level coilvers. They are only ride height adjustable, and no damp. I would start with Megans simply because they are nearly around the same price and are 32 way damp adjustable. Up to you of course.

 

I have them. They work well for a entry level street/track/autocross set up.

This guy recommended the Megan's because they have 32 ways of dampening adjustment...If thats the best advice he has don't listen to him. 32 ways of dampening is a bunch of crap. Your better off with 6 different settings.

For what you need, Tein Basic or Megan's will be fine for you.

But don't go around thinking that the more ways clicks of adjustment you have = better shock.

 

This is really good advice. Some of your much more expensive and higher quality kits will yield differences with each adjustment but the introduction level coilover kits will not. I usually make 1/2 and full turn adjustments only. I would be fine with 12 settings but I agree that 6 is plenty.

The only aspect about the TEINS, last I recall, is they do not have a lower collar for height adjustment and require you to adjust height with the spring perch. This isn't the best method because you end up having to load the springs quite a lot depending on your desired height.

TEIN might have changed their design since I had a good look at their set of coilovers but that is one design aspect I would consider avoiding if you can.

The damper adjustments are only effective tools in the hands of someone who understands how they will effect the handling of the car. Otherwise, like other aspects of coilovers, it could end up making the handling worse.

The independent ride height adjustment, IMO, is really something you want. The reason is it allows you to keep the same suspension travel regardless of the height of the car. Otherwise, a lower car would have less suspension travel than a car that sat higher.

It's all a balance, but ideally you want more travel instead of less. Bottoming out means unlimited oversteer!

 

If you really want to get "technical", then tell the OP why the Tein Basics would be the better choice over Megan's. I'm simply giving the guy advice based on what is IMO for the money, one of the best if not the best option for an entry level coilover. I mentioned the 32 way adjustment to make it more interesting for the OP and I personally had the Tein Basics on the 8 then switched to Megans. Now I'm using Ohlins but probably over kill for the streets haha. All I'm saying is that if this was to turn into a Tein Basic/ Megan street fight, I vote for megan because there are more options, that's all. They are a great option for the money....

 

Megan's are good at lowering the car...That's about it.

 

I did not say they are "above & beyond" but coming from a cost perspective, I think they are a better deal, idk... ?

 

Would KW Varient III's get me around the track a little faster? Maybe, but in the mean time my Tein Basics get me around my home course in a pretty respectable time.
