Anyone use 18x8 offset 35 wheel on their RX8? legal in VIC?

Hi all

First thing, yes, i have done my research, as far as the research result tells, people "in general" said 18x8 offset 35 wheel will be fine on rx8. However, if possible, i would really like to check with someone who actually have that size and confirm it is ok. I meant i am going to fork out quite a few bucks, i don't wanna get it and then....scrap scrap........it's not like i can return them....

So if anyone or their friend's RX8 use that size, or even smaller offset (assuming if smaller than will do, then 35 will definitely be ok..), could you please let me know? i am very keen to get the set of wheel that in the shop right now.

My car is currently lowered with Eibach spring with around 28mm~32mm lowered (can't really remember to exact number), tyre size 215x40x18, With that setup, will i be able to get away with it? Or do i need cetain modification before it stop scrap the arche?

One last question, is it Aus Victoria RTA legal?

Thanks heaps in advance for any advice!

Cheers

Ian

The offset should fit, i've seen members here with +35 offset and alot wider than 8 inches. If anything, you may have to trim/roll out the rear fender, but I highly doubt you'll have to do that with your tire size.

As for legal in VIC I wouldn't know.

Ian, I ran with 18x8 with +35mm offset all around and it was a fine fit. Even with a drop you will have no problems. Furthermore, I was on 225 tires and I still had enough room to clear the fenders.

Lastly, steering felt normal - no noticable tugging due to wider track.

Here's a picture of my 18x8 +35mm wheels.

Hey 416to212, thanks heaps for the confirmation and photo, that is exactly what i am after. Btw, awesome white rx8, that's the coloar i am always after. Sadly it wasn't available at the time when i was in the market. Also, if i am correct, your rim is exactly the same one that i am after in the shop now! lol~~good taste, good taste.

So just to double check, when you have reasonable extra weight on the car (e.g. groceries or 1 extra person on board). It also won't scratch? Or under any situation it might scratch the arche? Also, more importantly, have you lowered your car too?? You lowered it with spring only or the full suspension kit?

I don't mean to doubt, but again, it's a large sum of money and i did had a rather bad experience in this problem with my previous car. Long story short, to fix the tyre scrapping, i need to change my rear spring to stock height and that was the cheapest way....and certainly i don't wanna do it again....

Thanks again!! getting new rim soon~lol~so excited!

Bagachin: on stock suspension you can fit a lot without scraping. I had 4 peope in my car + beach chairs and still no scrape.

You'll be fine with that setup.

My personal opinion: If you're gonna upgrade the rims, you could look at other sizes that will work. I'm running 18x8.5 +35 and i'm lowered - no scrape at all (picture upon request). There's also a thread revolving around this - The "Will It Fit" thread. Check it out when you get a chance to search the forum.

Hey guys,

Thanks again for the confirmation. I am more confident with that offset now.

To Atilla,

Is your car lowred with aftermarket spring only or the full suspension kit? The reason i asked is that, according to my previous experience, everything else stay the same, the wheel could scrape the arche with softer suspension setup (e.g. lowred with spring + stock shock) while it will not touch anything with a firmer (same height) full aftermarket suspension kit on.

I think it is due to the fact that the car is often a lot firmer with the aftermarket suspension and won't bounce as much as the stock setup with lower spring. And with the firmer aftermarket suspension kit, even with extra weight, it won't compress the shock as much and the gap between the wheel and arche will still be relatively larger.

Sorry if i didn't make myself clear enough as i am not good at explaining something too technical...

Bagachin:

I'm lowered on Swift Mach Springs w/Stock shocks. Here's some info on it:

Swift
Front drop .8 "
Front rate 207 lb
Rear Drop .8 "
Rear rate 90-129 lb (progressive rears)

As of right now - with the current spring rate that I have - i have no scraping issues whatsoever even with my tire profile (245/40/18) - I don't think there's any after market springs that will lower you (nor will they make the overall suspension softer) far enough to make 18x8 +35 wheels scrape so you should be safe. For the most part there are some aftermarket spring and shock combos that will rival some full coilover setups (i.e. S-Tech+Koni)

Anyways - here's a picture of what the drop looks like on my setup.
