Anyone driving All-Season tires in Winter?

I'm curious to know if anyone is driving their 8 all winter long on All-Season tires?

I used to have a dedicated set of summer and winter wheels, but I'd like to know if All-Seasons are enoughto move the 8 in a NYC winter. Typically, snow is cleared quickly and salted, but we might have 6 bad snow days. As I park in the street sometimes I get baracaded by a 8 inch wall of hard pack from the plows.

How does the 8 handle a winter with All-Seasons? Liveable? Doable? Or straight up impossible?

I'm looking at the Continental ContiExtremeContact, a better All-Season in the winter than most.

well I made it (barely) through a very icy winter here in Oklahoma with my re040's and low tread; however, now I have some re960's and I think things will be much better :D

Hey I think I'll get snow tires put onto my 18" stocks too....

Wanna go in on a group buy together? Since you are in Jersey and I'm in NY, maybe we can find a shop willing to give us a better deal on two sets of winter tires?

Anyone with All-Seasons in NYC? It's rarely ever a true winter here in the city but sometimes it gets bad in the Catskills and VT for snowboarding...

Im in NYC duh :P

Dont even bother. Winter tires, or just dont drive.

why ? Cuz once the temp is below 40-50 degrees, ur All season-tire will become Rock hard, Rock hard = no traction = why bother ?

Winter tires u will get the traction u 'll never get on All season.

2 winter ago I had All season, I can move around barely, but its not fun when ur car slides.

Last winter I finally got a set of winter tires, OMG what a night n day difference.

so get a set for winter

I did it last year. It's doable but not recommended. I got myself some winter tires for this season.

Are you absolutely sure that we are not related? Take me to your father's brother!

I have used all-season for all 3 winters I have had the RX8. I have Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S 245/40-18's. I wouldn't say they were the best tire for the winter. There seem to be better tread patterns out there that will work better in snow. But, I haven't got stuck. I do slide a little, but it's manageable. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have gone with such a wide tire.

I currently have toyo proxes 4. Used them last winter and I could get around, but I had to drive very carefully. I will be driving much more this year, so I'm getting winter tires -- Blizzak LM-25

BTW, I am in N. NJ

O and if anyone is interested, I will be selling those toyos so I can have dedicated winter tires/rims and summer tires/rims

With modern reactive safety features like airbags and crumple zones, I'm sure that you will survive.

The question is can you afford to take the risk by driving on all-season tires in the winter? In my opinion it's just not worth the risk.
