Those lugs even with a key must be a bitch to take off without scratching the wheel.

Just put the lug key or socket in a bag, that way there is no metal on metal contact.

 

Nice wheels Bamster, those are the rotary forged wheels right? Any idea what the the setup weighs with the tire on?

Thank you! Yes they are rotary forged. I'm not sure how much they way...I forgot to roll my rear fenders So when I take off the wheels, I'll weigh them.

Don't get us started,

 

By putting it in a bag it protects the lug nut and the wheel, dual purpose action.

Just have to make sure you don't drop the lug nut on the wheel.

 

I just put electrical tape around the key or socket.

 

Used to do the electrical tape trick, but it left sticky residue behind on my old wheels cause it was a tight fit.
Also was sick of ruining expensive Rays lug nuts, so the bag takes care of both problems.

 

Buy better electrical tape I have been using that trick for years. But the best bet socket wise is to use these.

 

Cool, still does nothing to protect lug nuts.
Those Rays aluminum lugs are soft and damage easily during normal removal, so for something so pricey I like that small buffer zone it supplies.

Oh, the lugs themselves, yeah I have a set of beat up Rays lugs. For lugs the best thing to get are these:

Lifetime warranty against chipping, etc.

 

Those Sunex sockets work well. The socket itself is a soft aluminum and it usually gets trashed before the lug or wheel. I think they make a set that is a torque stick as well.

 

That's what I'll go with next time, fancy lug nuts are a scam.
