you dont mention the tire, but it is doable.

people scoffed at my 245 40 18 on 7.5" wheels.. curb rash does not happen.. bonus.

What would be the widest I could go on a 8.5 wheel then, 255? That seems odd. if we can fit a 245 on our 8 inch wheel (stock) why can't we fit a 265 on an 8.5 inch wheel?

you might be able to. depends on the tire, the sidewall and the talent of the installer.. but sometimes it is not the thing to do..

lots of autoxers stuff 275s on a 8 inch rim, but that has nothing to do with the street..
