20 Inchers Club - Discussions ONLY related to 20" rims/tires

Hello again, people from the RX-8 planet. How are you today ?

Since my very-popular-but-closed topic will be only a souvenir soon, i'm starting this new thread.

Idea is very simple: People who just don't care about performance and still want to get info on any 20's wheels, tires, performance loss (if any), suspension tricks, etc.. WILL BE ABLE TO DO SO.

You don't have 20's and want to sing the " 20's is for pimp, bla-bla-bla, 20's is for pimp, Bla-bla-bla" song ?

Go elsewhere, start an anti-20's thread if you have enough time to waste, but just don't bother people who want to experiment the 20's and get info FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOWS.

I think the moderator on this site will fully understand and cooperate.

Let's the 20's club begins here.

Jo8

yawn... maybe if your title was a bit less confrontational, you wouldn't recieve and negative posts regarding 20's. Its like posting in the performance section (autos not allowed)

don't get the mix message either, I like 20's other rx8's just not on my rx8.

From one rx8 owner with 20' wheels to another
you are making us look bad.
Im glad I got a better response when I posted my pixs and only did it incase anyone
needed help.which from my understanding was very helpful for some.
but what you are doing is trying to make everyone look badd.
p.s we already made up a 20" rx8 club just for the forum and kidding around purposes.
unsure who's a member and who isnt

I'm glad you added the qualifier (in bold above), so that there are no illusions about any performance benefits from running 20" wheels. There's no arguing with physics and facts (who was it who said something about Columbus proving that the world was round?). For those who want all the facts, be sure to read the sticky thread about unsprung weight (JO8, you do understand the difference between sprung weight and unsprung weight, don't you?)

By the way - intelligent discussion is always permitted. The very first time you insult anyone in this thread or start calling names, it gets closed (applies to anybody else equally, of course). If I'd seen your other thread earlier, it would have been closed much earlier.

My personal thoughts - JO8 has stated that he isn't able to feel any ride degradation between stock 18" wheel/tires and his 20" wheel/tires. I'm in the camp that can feel a definite ride degradation going from my light 17" winter wheels/tires to the 6 lbs heavier per wheel/tire stock 18s. If you like 20" wheels, go right ahead. Personally, if I were trying to upgrade my car, I wouldn't consider heavier wheels that make it slower, handle worse, and ride rougher, to be much of an "upgrade"...

Regards,
Gordon

i really don't think "twenees" are bad...in Kel's case, his car was tastefully done and is one of my favorite looking silver 8's. If you come off like a jackass on this forum and say, "aye yo, i got some twenees and feel no loss in performance" and no facts to back it up, you will get flamed by a lot of people on this forum (including myself).

heh.."small rims not allowed" what?! how about "small rims not allowed, but small brains are!" or something, yeesh, some folks just don't know when to give things a rest I'd have to agree with Kel, you really are making mountains out of molehills and making the other guys that run/want 20's look bad, give it a rest already!

Btw for fixing up one statement in the "other thread". The two tires in the study were different. The rx7 16's used an out of date, old, obsolete, toyo Trapino. The 18's used the new, properly worn in (about 4k miles) Rx8 potenza's. The tire advantage was decidely in the rx8 wheels favor (better compound, newer tread design, relatively fresh instead of worn out). Even so, with both a heat advantage (rx8 wheels were run prior to the rx7's), and a tire compound advantage, the rx7 16x8's were still 0.5 seconds faster in the 1/4 with a faster trap speed. Consistently to boot.

Time Slips/Information
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...9&page=7&pp=15

Due note that the larger the diameter of the wheel, the greater effect the tire weight as on the rotational inertia and the overall unsprung weight effect.

Here is a quick way to erase your connection to your past threads and posts: Change your name and try not to post any rediculous claims. Do those two things and people will forget about JO8.

Who says autos aren't allowed in the performance section? They are. We just gave them their own dedicated section because there were too many 6 speed owners who immaturely bashed them.

You started the thread, you can also delete it. Do it while you still can though.

From their point of view, they are RIGHT.

No, seriously. Nothing is more dangerous than a passionate (read: fanatic)
You can be passionnate collecting bottle of beer or be a raceheadz with a Mazda, it's all the same: you live on your dedicated island and no one can reach you.

I have no choice but to sell the 20's and swim all the way to your island.

'cannot live without this club.

I didn't say they weren't allowed, I know they have a section. I was speaking in hypothetical terms in response to his 'no small rims allowed' part of the title.

Yeah. Close this thread, it takes too much space on your web server.
