20 Inch Rims

20 Inch Rims
I want to purchase some Koing (20 inch) Rims for my RX8? Was wondering if adding Springs would be recommended to get to correct Drive Height? Would any other aftermarket part be required? Or would keeping the stock size 18 be a better idea for price wise and handling?

if your worried about any kind of performance issues...don't bother with 20's..even 19's are a bit much...unless you can keep them light..but you will pay a pretty penny for <20lbs 19's...

20s are definitely possible!
ask Ezzy or KelRX8 or many others...you will need to drop the car atleast a bit...the tires will be like rubber bands though so be careful! :D
The performance decrease won't be nearly as bad as some says but still you may want to upgrade the suspension system to bring things closer to stock in terms of ride feel
if you get an FI kit...well then that is a whole other story if you get wider tires this will help
really do a search on this one...and if you want them get them...just know the performance limitations exist and don't listen to jackasses who say it is out of the question

20" will fit all round. you can even try a 20"/22" front/rear combo there is one 8 here in sydney with that setup.
money wise the 18" will cost less, you have to factor the replacement tyre prices when making decisions.
i have 20" x 8.5" with 245/35 tyres all round and lowered on 2.5" front and 2.75" rear springs and front/rear adjustable sway bars atm. when my 8 get back on the road, i will look into new shocks or coilovers.
my current setup is bumpier than factory due to less shock travel, but if you get a set of new shocks to match the lower springs, the ride will be more comfortable.
performance wise there isnt much difference on the streets, you will def. notice on the track, but hey, if you are going to a track day, throw the factory 18" back on... simple as that!
pick a set of wheels you like with lower suspension, you 8 will look pimp..... especially on a black 8 :D
oh btw, no additional aftermarket items required. it'd be a good idea to have the guards/fenders rolled

I will be into the Kel and Ezzy club soon with 20's. Many people tried to discourage me of doing this (20's on rx8) but i'm stubborn, i want to see/feel it by myself... I'll let you know
i even tought about 22's all around, but know i know that THIS is not a good idea ;-)
Will probably go with 245/35/20 tires to not exceed +3% diameter from stock
EZZY: you car is exactly the impact that i want on my 8. How did you get 2.5" drop ? I'm planning to buy tein S... Any other recommendations ?

i have the locally custom made spring on my car from www.k-mac.com.au
have used their springs on pretty much all of my cars, and they can custom mae to any height you want. i know they export the items too.
a friend of mine got her 8's factory spring resetted to the same height so this is another option. the reason i went with a new set of custom springs is that i can always put the factory springs on if i want. but if you go that low, i'd suggest to get a set of shocks, so it wont be a bumpy ride. this would be a cheaper option if you dont want to spend the money on coilovers.
ps. 22" would noy fit the front.

You don't necessarily need new springs at all, I picked up 20in rims with 245/35/20 which give only a 6mm Diameter difference from stock. This has no effect on the speedo at all.
Additionally it makes no difference to ride height.
Handling is a little harder and I have noticed that turning is much lighter. Other than that until the tyre coating wears off then I will comment on grip.

Ezzy: thanks for the info. I noticed their "camber kit"... Do we need this on 8 ?
Now i'm still tryin to figure out which one to choose:
- Australian springs (From the Kangooroo country, can't be wrong! ;-)
- Tein S
- SpringTech
