19 and 20" rims. Performance?

I'm considering to purchase 19 or 20 inch rims and wheels on my rx-8.
though, not sure how will overall performance be on such wheels...

those, who tried such wheels diameter, could you please tell your overall impressions?
how is handling and suspension on such wheels? isn't it driving to rough?

thank you!

Tramlining tends to become more prominant, ie it will tend to follow any rut in the road more. Also as you end up with a lower profile tyre you feel bumps more than you will have in your OEM 18's. In theory, the rolling radius of your tyre shouldnt change or else you speedo will be out and as such performance/economy shouldnt change, however weight will play a factor in that.

Cheers

Andrew

Andrew, thank you for reply, i understand all these issues.

though, what i would like to hear is user opinions on 19 or 20 wheels... how much more rough it feels? is it really annoying or not? especially if you go not on the perfect roads.
if i go in my car for a couple of hourse, i don't want to feel tired (i am not on my current 18"s )

yes you can feel the slight roughness compared to stockers but thats because of the lower profile tires. if your that concious of getting bigger rims why not just get aftermarket 18s?

the best options would be getting bigger rims (e.g. 19 - i'm addicted to this option ) but without making my vehicle non-comfortable to drive

Performance is going to be worse unless you spend big $$ (more than 1k per wheel not including tires). My 19's are about the same weight as my 18's but I can definately feel a difference in braking. The 19's feel heavier. Ride has actually improved. The stock tires are really stiff, my 19's made the ride a bit softer. Steering also takes a slight bit more effort.

If you want performance stay away from 19's and espcially from 20's.
