Anyone ordered from these guys?
I am assuming that since other people have installed Hiro's these would have the proper bolt pattern/offset?
Anyone know how much these weigh?

Never had aftermarket wheels before... what questions/requests should i make of whoever i order from?

 

They're very nice, especially on a black RX-8, but not my cup of tea. I believe otrovago has a set on his RX-8.

These Hiro's only come in 18x8 (not 18x8.5). What do you think about this from a performance point of view. The 8.5 width would allow me a wider tire right? People on this forum seem to like this size.

I like the look of 19's but think if I am going to spend the money i shouldn't add weight (change the ride).

What about "offset"? If I went with these 18x8's (stock size) would i need to woory about offset? I don't really understand what it is...

also... the reason i was looking at bronze was I have the black with black and tan interior... thought the bronze rounded it out...

The widest tire, I believe, you an put on an 18 x 8 wheel is 245 mm.

Here's a definition of offset I borrowed from www.1010tires.com.

Offset -

The offset of a wheel is the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel to the true centerline of the rim. A positive offset means the mounting surface of the wheel is positioned in front of the true centerline of the rim / tire assembly. This in effect brings the tire in to the fender well more. Conversely, a negative offset means the mounting surface of the wheel is behind the true centerline of the rim / tire assembly. This will cause the tire to stick out away from the vehicle.

In layman's terms, too much positive offset will lead to rubbing, while too much negative offset will make your car look like a lowrider...I think.

so is offset something i specify when i buy the wheels/tires or is this something i specify when having the wheels put on?

 

Wheels come with different offsets, since cars have different fender sizes.

 

When you inquire about ordering, they will ask you what car. As far as offsets, the stock offset I believe is +50mm and stock rim is 18x8. They wheel manufacturer probably has a recommended offset for certain applications (the RX-8, for example), but you can adjust to preference. If you were to specify a +41 offset for the front wheel with the stock 18x8 size, the wheel would stick out 9mm more (50-41) than the stock wheel.

Wider wheels are generally preferable because you put wider tires (as you suggested), but are also heavier. I actually had the same issue with rims I just ordered -- I wanted 18x8.5, but they only make the rim in 18x8 and 18x9. I went for the wider wheel, and I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

This is also my first experience with aftermarket rims and tires, so that's just what I think I've picked up in the past few months or so.

on the official hiro website they do offer them in 8.5 but i never heard of 8.0

 

No, they are only available in 8.5's and at this time AXIS have not released an 18 version. They advertise them, just do not sell them. Odd, huh?

 

if i want to keep my speedometer from needing to be adjusted, what would be the best tire size to get with the 18x8.5 wheels? I like the low profile look...

Thanks much. I am leaning towards the bronze... Do you know how much the 18x8.5's weigh (or how much yours weigh)? What size tire would you recommend for an 18x18.5 (wanting performance).

Once again, 18's are not being sold as yet, so I doubt anyone will know the weight!
