Ill try to be helpful, you probably wont find any direct comparison threads around. But it would probably help to know the style you want first. Then it would be easier to find a picture of that style wheel in both 17 and 18. Ohh and you can defiently notice the difference between 17 and 18, mostly because of the tires.

For me...18's. It's just the right size for the RX8. If it's smaller or bigger than the 18's, it looks awkward. It's up to you to decide. It's your dough

Yeah, this is the main difference... It mostly just comes down to personal preference on whether you would rather see more rubber or more metal.

On a lowered car, you can run something like a 255/40 or 245/40 on a 17" rim and get better gearing & lower weight/moment of inertia, both of which add up to better acceleration. You can feel it.

Actually, you can do this on a non-lowered car, but the gaps in the wheel wells will look stoopid. However, if you drop the car a bit (not too much because the tires will lower the car too, and you can quickly get into ground clearance issues) you can balance the look.

Dont buy Rotas they look like garbage. There are plenty of good looking quality wheels out there that wont break the bank. Rotas make me cringe.

My wheels. Lowered on Tein Basic.

My car with 17x9.5 +38 (i think) Enkei NT03+M

My car with 18x9 +28 Advan RS

My car with 18x9.5 +45 Enkei RPF1

04rx, a lot of racers will go to a 17" wheel because of the reduction of weight. You can loose a couple of pounds of rotational mass which allows the car to accelerate faster. It is also a reduction in unsprung weight that can improve the ride on the street. When you move to a smaller diameter wheel you have to increase the tire diameter to keep the speedometer correct. You will need to work with tire diameter and section width to get something that works with the car.
Beyond that it's all what kind of look your going for.

Hi all,
Changed from a size r17 to r18 wheels and shortly afterwards the abs, hand brake and dsc lights all come on after a few minutes of driving.
Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Reginald.

This has nothing to do with the wheels themselves. My bet is that one of the wheel speed sensors got gummed up with schmoo or died.

Or the tires aren't the same size or wear and thr computer doesn't understand what you're doing to it.

Forgot about that.

Mrqng, what are your tire sizes? Same all around or did you go staggered.

Newly refurbished wheels.
Thanks Notapreppie and Loki, as far as i know, it has same tyres all round, but i think one of them has a different speed rating, will double check later in the morning.
I plugged in my abs scanner and it reads a fault with the steering angle sensor, wheels mismatch (all wheels have been refurbished).
Regards
Reg.
