17" to improve the final drive, better perf, quieter
Anybody gone from 18s to 17s to improve the final drive. Did you get better performance on dry or wet? Were they quieter? Did the TMPS work on the new rims.
I'm looking at the SSR Comp GT and Toyo Proxies TS-1 or TR-1.
Canzoomer got 13.89s @ 1/4 dyno (if i remeber correctly) with 17" 215/30-17, high flow cat and CZ stage 1
Someone else actually got the FEED final drive at 4.77 and said it was awesome, like the same noticeable difference from stock to light flywheel.

Ride Naked!
There are several threads about 17" wheels if you do a search, That being said I use 17x8 Kosei K1 TS with 255/40 Kumho MXs for autocross. Whether they work better in the dry or wet or are quieter will depend on tire width, tread pattern and compound. TPMS compatibility depends on the wheel. The Kosei K1 TS sold at TireRack is compatible. My 8 does seem more "lively" with the lighter wheel/tire combo.
Oh, you do want to have your car lowered or it will look ready to go mudding. Between lowering and the smaller tires it will drag it's nose and bottom going in and out of parking lots.

I got a set of 17" Bridgeston Blizzak's mounted on...now I forget the name of the wheels, but anyway, they look great, they are MUCH quieter, smoother, mileage is a touch better, like maybe 1 MPG. Dowside is the handling/steering, not the old Razor-Sharp feel that the factory tires had. However, my sore butt is fine with the trade off and so are my ears.
I'm considering finding a softer set of tires for this coming spring when I take the blizzak's off. I thought the difference here was the softness of the tire, not the rim size. Any thoughts?

For whatever it's worth, I'm considering going to 17" wheels when my PZero Nero's in 245-40x18 tires wear out. But 10,000 miles on 'em so far and they still look new. Sigh. Too bad they're such awesome tires.

So why are you considering 17's?
