Well there is romour of a new classification for the 8 in SCCA. It would be a slick tire class and the only ones available are 16". I can get 18" slicks but they are ungodly expensive.

You can't fit 16 inch wheels on the car if you have the sport suspension.
The sport suspension has upgraded brakes and the lowest you can go would be 17 inch. Unless you either don't have the sport suspension or you plan on downgrading the calipers/rotors to non-sport specs (don't know whats involved with this) then there isn't any way of getting 16's to fit.
Edit: As far as I know, the only model with the 16 inch wheels and smaller brakes is the base auto.
